Maintenance Engineer I

26.53/Hour

Duties:

Maintain, repair, replace restore, remove relocate and do any maintenance which is necessary for the proper and continuous operation and maintenance of all Facilities of Montana Tech. This includes: trouble shooting, maintaining and installing any electrical pertaining to the operation and maintenance of the campus buildings and equipment.

Maintain, repair, replace, restore, remove and relocate any plumbing systems including toilets, sinks, urinals, hot water tanks, showers, etc. This also includes distribution of hot and cold water lines, drain waste, vent lines, steam supply, return lines, pumps, steam traps, valves, glycol systems, and compressors.

Maintain and repair all HVAC systems to include motors, controls, coils, lubrication, filters, belts, and all controls and wiring.

The Maintenance Engineer I position has daily responsibility with monitoring of high pressure boilers.

This position will also:

  • Interpret and apply blue print specifications, control diagrams and maintenance manuals. 
  • Responding to and maintenance of fire alarm systems.
  • Welding, repair and fabrication of metals.
  • Maintain and repair all exterior area lighting. 
  • Startup maintenance and shut down of all cooling towers and systems.          

Required to work rotating shifts

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in any of the following: HVAC, electrical, plumbing, building systems or facilities maintenance
  •  State of Montana 3rd class boilers license or ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

  • License or certification in any of the following: 
    • Cooling and refrigeration, heating and ventilation, electrical, plumbing, building systems or facilities maintenance if highly preferred (submit copies of certifications with application).
  • Experience in troubleshooting, repairing and maintenance of
  • Cooling and refrigeration systems
  • Building automation systems
  • Heating and ventilation systems
  • Electrical including interior and exterior lighting systems
  • Plumbing systems
  • Building systems
  • Experience in facilities maintenance
  • Experience with fire alarm systems
  • Ability to read and interpret blue prints, specifications, control diagrams and maintenance manuals
  • Possess or be able to obtain a valid Montana driver’s license with a good driving record
  • Proficiency with Microsoft or other computer programs

Physical Demands

Lifting:  Floor to 30 inches, up to 50#.  Floor to 60 inches, up to 35#.  Floor to overhead, up to 50# sustained, with both hands.

Carrying: 2 handed front, carry up to 35# for 50 feet.

Pushing and pulling forces required for necessary tools and equipment related to the duties listed above.

Pushing and pulling forces required (handling, pushing, and pulling classroom and office furniture, file cabinets, and equipment): 30# sustained at waist level (60# optional)

Static trunk forward bending and twisting from a standing, crouching or kneeling position while using tools.

Reaching with your arms in all directions, including overhead with 5# in both hands, sustained.

Working overhead from various positions (standing, squatting, and kneeling).

Balancing when climbing and working on a ladder.

Use of various handgrip circumferences and firm handgrip positions while manipulating various tools and equipment (maximum 50#).

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  The noise level is usually moderate to loud.  Exposure to any number of elements but none present to the extent of being disagreeable.  Maybe required to work in conditions including cold, heat, temperature swings, noise, outdoors and indoors, around mechanical, electrical, fume/odor, dust/mites, chemical and toxic waste hazards.  May be required to work in locations that involve hazardous environments requiring protective equipment that conforms to OSHA regulations and some physical discomfort due to temperature, dust and noise.
