JOB DESCRIPTION
Maintenance Assistant
Responsible to:
Director of Operations
Purpose:
To provide a safe, attractive, and clean environment for all residents and staff.
Duties:
Complete duties and projects as assigned by the Maintenance Director, including, but not limited to:
A. Routine cleaning and maintenance of facility vehicles.
B. Maintenance of grounds; including lighting, parking lot, sidewalks, steps, plantings, and trees.
C. Maintenance of exterior of building; including roof, windows, storm windows, and screens.
D. Completion of repairs, as needed.
E. Painting as required by annual schedule or as needed.
F. Maintenance of facility equipment; including plumbing, heating, air conditioning systems, refrigeration, laundry and kitchen appliances, particularly following preventative maintenance procedures.
G. Maintenance of safety/emergency equipment and systems; including exit lights, fire extinguishers, testing of fire alarm system, and testing of the emergency generator system.
H. Shopping for maintenance supplies.
I. Complete other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Manager.
J. Assist with agency emergencies as assigned by the Shift Supervisor
K. The Maintenance Assistant will not have unsupervised contact with the clients except during infrequent/unusual circumstances (i.e., emergencies requiring agency-wide participation).

Requirements
A minimum of 8 years elementary school or proof of equivalent knowledge. Good mechanical aptitude. Valid Illinois driver’s license and good driving record. Good manual dexterity. Physical stamina, energy, and coordination. Ability to stand for majority of workday. Ability to work in occasionally hot and humid conditions. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. Freedom from communicable disease.
