The City of Redmond is currently recruiting for an experienced Streets Maintenance and Operations Supervisor for our Public Works Department. Under general direction, incumbents in this classification plan, schedule and oversee the operation, Maintenance and repairs of City streets, shoulders, sidewalks, pathways, signs and roadway markings. Additional division focus includes oversight and management of the Streets Division's emergency management responsibilities, including response for snow, ice and windstorms, and other natural and manmade disasters.
Responsibilities will include:
- Provide leadership, oversight and performance feedback to staff to ensure established service and productivity levels are achieved.
- Monitor changes in laws, regulations and technology that may affect departmental operations; implement policy and procedural changes after approval.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of programs, policies and procedures.
- Recommend and execute new business practices, organizational structures, workflows and procedures to effectively deliver services.
- Oversee regulatory compliance and federal mandates.
- Prepare and propose division budget; review and monitor expenses to meet budget objectives.
- Identify need for contractor services; prepare and negotiate contractual agreements; review billing for services; monitor contractor's performance; ensure compliance with terms of agreements.
- Establish safe work practices and programs to promote safety in the workplace
- Review and investigate workplace accidents; make recommendations for prevention or discipline.
- Partner with other City of Redmond divisions and departments, Metro, King County Road Services, Sound Transit, Washington State Department of Transportation, local municipalities, utility districts, and other governmental agencies, private businesses and community/neighborhood groups, home owners associations, businesses, suppliers and contractors.
Knowledge of and Skills in
- Maintenance and repair procedures for right of way assets, including: roadway pavement, curbs, ramps, special purpose pathways, signs, pavement markings, street furniture, vegetated shoulder areas and right-of ways.
- Developing long-range goals and plans.
- Use of electronic technology software applications; examples include Microsoft Office, GIS, Sharepoint, and Lucity asset management software.
- Supervisory principles and practices including managing and motivating personnel.
- Prevailing laws and regulatory compliance measures.
- Safe working procedures and practices.
- Maintaining accurate records.
- Creating purchase orders and/or purchase requisitions and reconciling accounts.
- Techniques for providing a high level of customer service to public and city staff, in person and over the telephone.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, vendors, contractors, public officials and the general public.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Analyze data, measure results and generate reports.

Work is performed mainly in an office setting and can consist of both indoor and outdoor activity. Outdoor work can expose the employee to seasonal heat and cold or adverse weather conditions, traffic, dust and noise. Indoor work consists of planning, research and other office work making substantial use of computer resources. Drives a city vehicle to conduct work. Subject to 24-hour emergency call out.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Three years experience in parks or public works operations,
- Supervisory experience preferred; or demonstrated leadership experience or team lead experience
- High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred;
- Or equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
Licenses and Certificates
