The Digital Modernization Sector has an opening for a Mainframe Systems Engineer

Mainframe systems programmer working on z/OS to support mainframe environment for government agency.
 
Daily operational tasks include:
 
 

  • Develop programing code to automate various mainframe software release processes including:

    • Receiving, acknowledging, installing, and confirming release software packages

  • Program various mainframe production support processes including workload/job scheduling and JCL updates including:

    • Scheduling and validating TWS jobs

  • Plans, designs, develops, verifies engineering enhancements and maintenance for customer’s mainframe environment

  • Work in a rapid-paced environment and leads technical mainframe staff

  • Document all platform service processes and procedures and maintain the artifacts in a document repository

  • Perform system operation support including server system administration

  • General troubleshooting of complex engineering issues for hardware, software, and network components

  • Software installation, automations, and migrations

  • Develop enhancements for ongoing backup and recovery tasks

  • Evaluating new hardware and software, with the goal of improving and increasing operation efficiency

  • Monitor and help modernize mainframe testing and software integration processes.

  • Perform regular mainframe backup and DR processes.

  • Support various mainframe file transfer processes.

  • Coordinate various application and batch management daily tasks

  • Create internal and external daily reports to monitor the status of mainframe processing environments using tools such as CA View

  • Manage LPAR performance and MIPS utilization via status reports which will include average and peak MIPS utilization


  •  
    Qualifications:
     
    8+ years of Mainframe Systems programming and engineering experience

  • Bachelors degree with 8+ years of overall related experience with an IBM z/OS Mainframe environment. High school diploma with additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree

  • Knowledge of IBM z/OS tools for installations, customizations, migrations, upgrades, maintenance, diagnostics, backups, recovery, and additional duties

  • System (hardware) and application (software) installation and configuration

  • Support on a M-F business hours schedule in the US Eastern time zone

  • System monitoring using installed as well as external tools

  • Extended hour and weekend support as required by mission or emergencies

  • Ability to work well with people from many different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience.

  • Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.

  • Candidate selected will be subject to a Government Public Trust security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to the customer’s information, prior to start date

  • U.S. Citizen

  • Experience within the governmental sector

  • Demonstrate excellent communication skills including the ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.

  • Ability to use strong industry knowledge to relate to customer needs and dissolve customer concerns and a high level of focus and attention to detail.

  • Strong work ethic with good time management with the ability to work with diverse teams and lead meetings.

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and analytical skills

All candidates supporting the CMS programs must have lived in the United States at least three (3) out of the last five (5) years prior in order to be considered.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $87,100.00 - $157,450.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
