Press Mechanic
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Press Mechanic to join our dynamic team at the Houston Chronicle. As a Press Mechanic, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation and maintenance of our press machines, which are critical to our manufacturing processes. Responsibilities:
- Trouble shoot, repair, and maintain Pressroom equipment and ancillary infrastructure systems to ensure OEM standards and departmental performance goals are sustained.
- Perform preventative maintenance and conditioned-based work resulting from inspections and monitoring of all equipment and related systems.
- Immediate response to conduct corrective repairs required to restore equipment to services, make it safe and secure, and to prevent imminent failure.
- Ensure all maintenance activities focus on determining the root cause of failure.
- Ensure all work is performed in accordance with industry best-practices and are aligned and consistent with OHSA and company standards and regulation.
- Manufacture replacement parts using lathes, drill presses, grinders, and milling machines. In addition, the use of welding and cutting equipment will be required.
- Sustain positive collaborative communication channels within all areas of the organization.
Maintain and ensure a safe, clean, and well-organized work environment Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the department meets its performance and operating goals.
- Position will require working various shifts; overtime will be required on as needed basis.
Qualifications:
- High school education or equivalent work experience
- Required five years of on-the-job industrial mechanical or equivalent related job experience
- Ability to read and interpret written instructions and operating / maintenance manuals
- Ability to perform a variety of tasks on maintenance shop equipment (lathe, drill press, grinder, milling machine, etc.) plus welding and cutting
- Strong communication skills; both verbal and written
- Detail-oriented, good organizational/time management skills, self-motivated, able to prioritize tasks and work independently
- Works well under pressure and in emergency situations
- Knowledge of industrial safety practices and OSHA regulations
Ability to stand 12 hours, frequently bending and lifting up to 75 pounds
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $22.00 - $32.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
