Job Summary:
To machine a variety of parts.
Job Responsibilities:
Sets up and operates boring mill(s) to perform any precision machining operation within the normal capacity of the assigned machine(s) where holding fixtures, standard cutting tools and feeds and speeds are usually available. Occasionally required to improvise or alter standard equipment to accomplish a specific assignment.
o Performs machine setup necessary to machine and check parts where considerable initiative and ingenuity must be exercised by the operator.
o Sets and adjusts table, determines and sets feeds and speeds for each operation and selects, adjusts, grinds and checks precision cutting tools.
o Selects, secures, and adjusts proper tools, fixtures, machine attachments, equipment, etc., to accomplish assigned work.
Uses machinist hand tools which may include crescent wrenches, allen wrenches, hammer, etc.
Uses a variety of precision measuring instruments which may include micrometers, calipers, comparator, air gage, hole gage, etc.
Responsible only for own work.
Performs other related duties as required.
Education:
Requires a high school diploma, an equivalent certificate, or a bronze level WorkKeys certification. Requires the use of blueprints, advanced shop math, handbook formulas, specifications, and a variety of precision measuring instruments.
Experience:
3-5 years experience on directly related machine shop equipment plus orientation period on boring mill.
