Job Summary:

The Deal is seeking a determined and resourceful junior reporter and researcher to join our award-winning staff.

 

The reporter will be responsible for initial outreach to company executives, investors and others in the world of dealmaking to uncover exclusive news stories various sectors and industries. The reporter will have the opportunity to work closely with senior editors and reporters in an apprenticeship capacity to build a source book and produce news stories and other compelling content from their reporting.

 

The ideal candidate will have a strong willingness to hit the phones, cultivate rapport with key corporate decision-makers, and extract hard-to-obtain information from sources.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

  • Source Exclusive News Stories: Proactively initiate communication with private company CEOs and executives via phone calls, emails, and other channels to uncover exclusive news and valuable insights.
  • Collaborate with Senior Reporters: Collaborate with senior reporters to identify potential sources, arrange interviews, and provide critical research support, thereby enhancing the quality and depth of news reporting.
  • Coordinate Meetings and Conversations with Executives: Schedule and manage interviews and discussions with company leaders, ensuring seamless information flow and timely follow-ups to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Cultivate Quick Rapport: Develop strong relationships with industry leaders, earning their trust and openness to facilitate the exchange of confidential information.
  • Navigate Information Gaps: Skillfully probe sources and new corners of the market to acquire elusive or sensitive details related to private companies, using effective questioning techniques.

 

Office Attendance:

Hybrid - Attend the office in New York regularly to facilitate team collaboration and coordination.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a related field.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional research and investigative abilities.
  • Self-motivated and able to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Meticulous organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in communication tools and software for research and coordination.

The annual salary range for this position is $50,000 to $75,000. The actual compensation may vary based on geographic location, work experience, education and skill levels. Our total compensation packages may also include competitive annual bonuses, commissions, or quarterly MBOs, dependent on the role. These will be discussed with you during the interview process. The salary range represents Delinian's good faith belief of the current market-value for the role at the time of this posting and is provided in support of New York's Salary Transparency initiative.
