Job description

The LVT Manager of theSpecial Care Unit and Clinics is part of the hospital clinical services team and assists with the organization, direction, management, and evaluation of patient care services for the Special Care Unit and Clinics. The LVT Manager supports the mission of the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center by providing the very best in customer service and patient care.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Director of the Special Care Unit, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Primary Care Service, and Clinics to evaluate the effectiveness of training programs, staff development, and career ladder to ensure compliance with national standards and state regulatory requirements
  • Plan, coordinate, and manage day-to-day activities of the SCU staff, including LVTs, Assistants, and Clinic Assistants
  • Manage veterinary clinical services activities supporting the department
  • Act as a liaison between the Director of SCU and Clinics to assure optimal communication and efficient operations
  • Collaborate with the team leaders and staff to develop, continually improve, and promote quality standards for care
  • Act as a working supervisor, including in an LVT capacity approximately 40% of the time
  • Mentor and guide hospital Team Leaders, Lead Technicians, and Administrator on Duty to ensure excellence in care
  • Provide veterinary clinical and technical guidance and leadership
  • Must have strong knowledge of all aspects of Patient Care and disease processes
  • Knowledge of scheduling, payroll management, admissions, discharges, and other areas as applicable
  • Perform responsibilities in accordance with hospital goals, objectives, policies, and procedures
  • Implement and enforce hospital policies and protocols
  • Deceased pets: Manage, coordinate, and delegate all aspects of client request for disposition of remains, tagging/bagging, release to crematory company, teaching cadavers, and conversion to communal cremation
  • Supervise assistant communication with clients and documentation of the communication in the medical record in reference to deceased pets
  • Supervise equipment repair and preventative maintenance using information provided by the Director of Materials Management
  • Implement and assess disciplinary action and progress improvement as needed
  • Demonstrate core value of care through positive behavior and act as an ambassador for AMC
  • Commitment to excellent customer service
  • All other related projects and duties as assigned

Qualifications Desired

  • Current NYS Veterinary Technician Licensure required
  • Minimum of 2 years of LVT experience in a specialty veterinary hospital
  • Proven ability to lead veterinary clinical and technical staff in a 24-hour healthcare environment
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
