We are currently seeking talented individuals for our Lube Technician 1 position!

Here is some of what you’ll do…

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Branch Manager, this position drives a lube truck and performs off site lubrication by servicing, completing preventive maintenance work on heavy equipment; performing minor mechanical field repairs on equipment; maintaining records and preventive maintenance schedules for assigned equipment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Drives a lube truck to various locations and performs servicing on both gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles and equipment,
  2. Tasks will include lubricating, changing oil, changing air and oil filters, and checking and adding fluids, including windshield washers, transmissions, cooling systems, brakes, and differentials.
  3. Organizes a job in a logical and economical sequence.
  4. Performs all requirements found in any Caterpillar Lubrication & Maintenance Guide and / or OMM
  5. Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on brake adjustments, leak repairs, removal and installation of radiators and thermostats and replacing hoses, fan belts, alternators, regulators, and batteries.
  6. Makes any necessary adjustments on engines as well as to the components in the various systems.
  7. Makes necessary small repairs along with trouble shooting codes using ET. Repairs may include component replacement, Updates, electrical, sensors, G.E.T. etc.  
  8. Orders parts through DBS (Dealer Business System).
  9. Enters labor time in daily (DBS).
  10. Performs assigned work within the communicated time quoted/flat rated.
  11. Completes assigned jobs to meet flat rate times with minimal to no rework.
  12. Writes service reports that accurately document diagnosis and repairs performed on a daily basis.
  13. Provides mechanical preventive maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
  14. Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
  15. Follows contamination control and OSHA/MSHA rules and regulations.
  16. Makes warranty recommendations and reports in representation of a CAT product.
  17. Maintains quality service by following organization standards.
  18. Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications.
  19. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  20. Performs other duties as directed by foreman or service manager.
  21. Open to all of San Diego County

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of two years’ experience in performing servicing, preventative maintenance, vehicle, and equipment inspection work including mechanical repairs on automotive or diesel equipment vehicles; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  2. Ability to multitask and establish priorities.
  3. Must have good verbal and written communication skills and proper business etiquette, customer service aptitude.
  4. Ability to work in a team environment and possess a positive attitude.
  5. Must have a valid Class “C” California State Drivers’ License with a clean driving record.
  6. Must furnish all hand tools required to repair, test, and diagnose hydraulic, air, power train, electrical and electronic systems on Caterpillar equipment.
  7. Note: Some high dollar tooling is supplied by Hawthorne.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  1. Walking and moving about on foot often through uneven terrain.
  2. Hands/arms operating equipment, hand, and power tools.
  3. Handling: Seizes, helps, or works with hands.
  4. Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools.
  5. Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
  6. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
  7. Standing: Remains in standing position if required for certain repair or maintenance work.
  8. Climbing: In and out of equipment.
  9. Vision: Reads work tickets, parts and service books and operate heavy equipment.
  10. Talking: Communications by radio, phone and in person.
  11. Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication by radio, phone and in person.
  12. Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles.
  13. Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.
  14. Lifting: Lifts up to 60 lbs. daily, frequent exertion.

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  1. Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
  2. Temperatures/Weather: Works outside and in shop with variations of temperature and weather.
  3. Exposure: Foul orders, fumes and harsh substances.
