What You'll Do in This Position
Purpose of Position
The Emergency Management Apprentice will learn to perform a range of competencies including personal effectiveness , academic proficiency, and workplace skills.
These include Savannah River Site (SRS) specific competencies, as well as emergency management industry-related competencies to assist in the development and maintenance of SRS emergency plans and procedures, adherence to Quality Assurance standards, and compliance with Department of Energy (DOE) Order requirements.
Major Responsibilities

  • Obtaining knowledge of, and assisting with, DOE and SRS program planning, and collaboration with on-site and off-site entities
  • Assisting in the coordination and integration of assigned emergency management program elements to ensure consistency with DOE Orders, guides and associated procedure requirements are maintained.
  • Supporting the development and execution of drills and exercises, as well as liaison activities between SRS facilities and Emergency Management.
This includes contributing to the creation of lessons-learned, corrective action plans, designing training programs, and conducting relevant training sessions. Assisting in the development and monitoring of All Hazard Surveys and Emergency Planning Hazards Analysis, as well as the qualification and utilization of the Emergency Response Organization using SRS and industry-related tools.
This is a 2000 hours or 2 year program designed to train apprentices on Emergency Management (EM) processes to perform at Grade 28 level. The Apprentice will have classroom, on-the-job training and learn to perform EM processes under the guidance of a qualified Emergency Management Specialist or instructor.
Security Clearance Information
SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance. This list of factors is not exhaustive; pre-employment information and security clearance requests are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications We Require
High School Diploma, GED, or other equivalent State Credential
Other Qualifications
Must have completed freshman year of college and in pursuit of a BA or BS degree in emergency management or related discipline
Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5.
Must successfully complete Savannah River Site General Employee Training and substance abuse processing.
