JOB BRIEF- The primary responsibility of a Fire Alarm Technician is to provide skilled, professional and customized installation, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting of fire alarm systems as well as various Low Voltage equipment and systems including, data, intercom, camera, and security systems.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- 5 years of experience in repair, troubleshooting, programming and maintenance of Low Voltage systems
- Current Fire Life Safety Certification- preferred
- Certifications and training in specialized fields, with a willingness to achieve additional training- desirable
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, blueprints and work orders
- Computer literate
- Work cooperatively and collaboratively with staff, co-workers, vendors, and professionals
- Work independently with limited direct supervision
- Physically capable of running cable, conduit, or fiber optic in attics, crawl spaces, and tight places
- Experience using various hand tools safely and proper care for tools
- Understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems with fire alarm systems
- Assist end-users with set-up, operations and configuration changes as necessary
- Must maintain a good driving record for driving to/from job sites
- Prepare accurate reports and concise records
- Ability to maintain composure, and steady workflow to meet deadlines
- Diligent in following safety policies and procedures
- Position may require overtime, occasional weekends, and travel
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Troubleshoot, repair, program, and mainentance of Low Voltage Systems listed in the job brief
- Run cable, conduit, or fiber optics in various customer facilities
- Travel and be punctual to job sites, along with being prepared for the day’s work
- Correctly interpret wire diagrams, schematic drawings, blueprints and work orders
- Collaborate with Service Manager or Project Manager to keep on schedule
- Effectively diagnose and troubleshoot problems that arise and resolve the problems
- Communicate clearly and in understandable terms to customers
- Meet schedules and timelines
- Properly care for tools and secure them at the end of the day
- Understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Keep daily timesheet and other required records and reports. Turn in on time to the appropriate person.
- Adhere to company policies, procedures and remain open to feedback
- Perform other related duties as assigned
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Working indoors and outdoors, at times unfavorable weather conditions
- Ability to distinguish colors for different type wires
- Ability to use hands and fingers to operate tools
- Ability to talk, hear, and see
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time, walk on unleveled surfaces, reaching above head, bending at the waist, kneeling, and crouching
- Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment or materials, maximum 50 lbs.
- Ability to climb ladders and work in cramped spaces
Starting Pay Rate- $22-$30 with opportunity to work on prevailing wage jobs.
