WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Wonderful opportunity for recent graduates with Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health & Sciences, or related field ready to start their career in Loss Control within the insurance space. The Loss Control Representative will successfully complete training and provide Loss Control consultative support to current and prospective policyholders in an assigned territory to assist in the reduction of the frequency and severity of workplace accidents or losses. This will involve visiting worksites, observing and evaluating risks, composing a synopsis of findings, and providing recommendations for improvement.
HOW YOU'D CONTRIBUTE TO THE TEAM
    • Successfully completes Loss Control training program introducing strategies for mitigating risk, industry terminology, internal procedures, and basic Underwriting and Claims Adjusting practices. Training will include site visits with more senior personnel.
    • Become familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the Loss Control field. This includes Occupational Safety & health best practices, occupational operations, employee exposures to workplace hazards, knowledge of and ability to execute appropriate controls on exposures, and applicable codes, laws, and regulations.
    • Manages an assigned book of business within a given territory. This includes traveling alongside team members to learn to conduct surveys, service visits, and technical training as well as prepare detailed written reports.
    • Monitors policyholder loss activity and develops loss reduction strategies.
    • Assists policyholders in identifying key objectives to improve safety and Loss Control at the workplace. Provides consultative and training services to support the account in reaching Loss Control objectives.  
    • Participates in the development and communication of presentations to clients, underwriters, other BHHC employees, brokers, and vendors.
    • Performs special assignments and projects as assigned.
WHAT YOU NEED TO QUALIFY FOR CONSIDERATION
    • EDUCATION: A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Health and Sciences, or a related discipline.
    • CERTIFICATIONS: Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Graduate Safety Professional (GSP), Occupational Safety and Health Technologist (OHST), or similar certification, preferred. 
    • EXPERIENCE: A minimum of one year of related training or experience, preferably providing Loss Control or occupational-related safety services with a worker's compensation insurance carrier, is strongly preferred. 
    • TECHNICAL SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, the individual must have the ability to learn and apply knowledge of a wide range of industrial operations and employee exposures to occupational hazards, and applicable codes, laws, and regulations. The individual should have knowledge of office operations, workflow analysis, and current technologies in telecommunications, data entry, and file management.
    • COMPUTER SKILLS: To perform this job successfully, the individual should be proficient on the Microsoft Office Suite and able to quickly master proprietary and vended software applications.
    • LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write and critique detailed reports that describe the operations, exposures, and controls of a wide array of industries. Ability to effectively present information to management and public groups.
    • REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Able to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
