Wethersfield High School has an immediate opening for a Long-term Substitute English Teacher. We are targeting filling this role immediately and the position is expected to last until mid/late January 2024, possibly longer.

Compensation: $160 - $300 per day worked (based on experience and qualifications)
Retention Bonus: Retention bonus eligible *

* Eligible for a retention bonus to be paid at the conclusion of the long-term substitute teacher assignment. The candidate must commit to and fulfill the full duration of the long-term assignment to remain eligible for the bonus payment ($500 based on a minimum of 20 days worked; $1,000 based on a minimum of 31 days worked; $1,500 based on a minimum of 51 days worked).
** The chosen candidate will be employed by our temporary staffing partner, Kelly Educational Staffing, and will be assigned to fill this opening.
Duties of the position include the following:
- Create lesson plans aligned to the CCSS and deliver instructional activities consistent with the targeted learning;
- Create, organize and implement learning activities, such as simulations, debates and experiential exercises designed to enhance classroom teaching, support optimal learning, and develop new skills;
- Encourage student learning through peer collaboration and productive discussion;
- Guide students, individually and in groups, in preparing for different types of assessments;
- Collaborate with colleagues in the development and utilization of unit lessons and learning assessments;
- Provide on-going feedback to students through the use of formative assessments.
Qualifications:
- Master's Degree is preferred but not required;
- Position requires the appropriate CT Certification in English (015);
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community;
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form;
- Ability to meet deadlines with severe time constraints;
- Ability to handle and treat information confidentially;
- Ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities;
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
