Newburyport Public Schools is seeking qualified Registered Nurse with at least 1 year of Pediatric or relevant experience. We seek a motivated nurse with good judgment, decision making, and communication skills. Candidates must understand the health needs of children and be able to work independently in the classroom setting or health office.Candidate must be a Registered Nurse currently licensed with the Massachusetts Board of Registration. Candidates must possess current certification in CPR.1 on 1 nursing care and monitoring for high-needs student.
Triages and administers first aid and specialized medical treatments (e.g. oral suctioning, tracheostomy care, catheterization, etc.) for the purpose of providing appropriate care for medically fragile children.Travels with student on bus/transportation as needed if indicated on a care plan.Demonstrates knowledge of, and the ability to administer medications appropriately, in keeping with school policy on administration of medication in school. Maintains students individual supplies in an appropriate location in the school.Implements individual student care plans.Maintains manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. health care plan, IEP, etc.) according to DPH and Board of Nursing following applicable privacy laws for the purpose of providing written reference; and/or meeting mandated requirements.Maintains contact with school nurses for the purpose of advising them of changes in student health and/or recommending further medical and/or emotional intervention.Monitors student's daily schedule and health care plan (e.g.
medication, tube feeding, appetite, etc.) for the purpose of providing necessary care in compliance with established guidelines and maintaining a positive learning environment.Participates in a variety of meetings and collaborations (e.g. Professional Development, consultations, interdisciplinary teams, IEPs, etc.) for the purpose of gathering, conveying and/or sharing information on students health needs, service delivery, and educational programs; and/or improving skills and knowledge.Prepares a variety of written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information.Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrators and appropriate agencies (e.g. suspected child or substance abuse, contagious diseases, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining students personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and participates in emergency preparedness and planning, Accompanies student to school-sponsored activities and field trips.Documents care for insurance/government reimbursement.Provides instructional support to student, under direction (e.g. math, science, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, verbal skills, etc.) for the purpose of implementing IEP goals; assisting in adapting to mainstream classroom/s; and ensuring student success.Other nursing duties as assigned.On days 1:1 students is not in school, 1:1 nurse will either support classroom or health office.
