Skills:
- Knowledge of power brake systems, railroad cars, & their related mechanical & electrical components; electronic work order systems such as Maximo or EPS is required.
- Knowledge of construction safety principles and regulations.
- Knowledge of rail transit operations and maintenance practices.
Duties:
- Assist state regulator with rail car inspections, work order, & investigations.
- Perform a variety of safety inspections and investigations at railroad facilities in an assigned territory to identify safety and health hazards that railroad management is obligated to correct as per federal and state rules and regulations.
- Make observations and complete inspection form, which may include photos, assessing the condition of vehicles and other railroad equipment.
- Conduct inspections pertaining to power brake systems, locomotives, railroad cars, and their related mechanical and electrical components.
- Plan and perform periodic inspections that provide assurance that rail vehicles are operational in compliance with manufactures standards.
- Inspect and observe tests of railroad rolling stock and other on-track equipment and related appurtenances to determine compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, or standards.
- Prior to or during assembly and installation, inspect and observe tests on railroad, railcar and maintenance facility equipment and other component parts of railroad facilities to determine whether such equipment and parts are suitable for the intended service.
- Review and approval of rail accident reports which includes root cause analysis.
- Interpret and apply developed standards and procedures governing light rail safety and security systems.
- Investigate catastrophic failures, major accident and incidents; as well as implement corrective action plans.
