Description
Responsible for care and management of the museum's living animal collection in a manner that fosters, advances, and reflects the mission, objectives, and core values of the Cook Museum.
Understands keeping captive wildlife and develops animal acquisition and collection plan and implements best practices for Live Animals in a museum.
Plans, executes, directs, and participates in work involving the care, display and safety of all Live Animals housed at the museum and the quarantine facility.
Maintains closed saltwater and freshwater aquatic life support systems, provides preventative health care, and identification and treatment of disease and parasites.
Initiates and implements specific husbandry related projects that may be conducted in the museum or in the field.
Exhibits a working knowledge of Federal and State permitting including USDA-APHIS
Demonstrates a high level of self-direction and problem solving.

Animal care/husbandry interns
Animal care/husbandry volunteers
Requirements
Qualifications:
Preferred degree in Animal Science, Zoology, or Biology or 10+ years' experience in Live Animal care and salt water aquarium life support systems.
Experience in informal science education and public speaking preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge in working with a living collection and dealing with questions from the public.
Knowledge of standards of care for reptiles, amphibians, salt water and freshwater fish
Knowledge of U.S. Federal Permits and animal care standards is a plus.
Leadership Experience with strong organizational, time management, interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills. Able to build and lead a team of passionate Live Animal care staff and volunteers.
Highly motivated, team player with innovative and creative thinking.
Detail oriented, independent worker and able to multitask, with the ability to clearly communicate with all levels of staff and departments on a daily basis. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Must have knowledge and high comfort level of Microsoft Office applications and computer skills in general
License and Certification
SCUBA certification (preferred or willingness to acquire)
