AMDEX Corporation is seeking a Linux Engineer to join its team supporting a contract with the Federal government.
Job Description:
- Coordinate and/or perform additions and changes to network hardware and operating systems, and attached devices; includes investigation, analysis, recommendation, configuration, installation, and testing of new network hardware and software.
- Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems, including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems.
- Troubleshoot at the physical level of the network, working with network measurement hardware and software, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices at the logical level working with communication protocols.
- Maintain network infrastructure standards including network communication protocols such as TCP/IP.
- Provide technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by the government.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Provide support for Operations and Maintenance of Linux systems (servers and VDIs) in a virtualized environment.
- Provide support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 7 and above) including integration with Ansible and Satellite.
- Prepare the Linux environment for migration to RHEL version 8.
- Develop and manage Linux baselines using Amazon Machine Images (AMIs).
- Perform updates to the configuration management tools and environment to support the new Operating System.
- Installation and configuration of operating systems (UNIX and Linux) and associated supporting software such as virtualization components (OS, application, and management), peripheral and clustering drivers, performance monitoring agents.
- Perform COTS drivers’ software loads, upgrades, updates and patches.
- Perform ongoing monitoring of CPU utilization, memory utilization, swap space, disk usage, etc and take corrective action where necessary. Make performance-based recommendations for solutions. Perform trend analysis to predict behavior and identify potential problems.
- Perform system backups and recovery. Perform periodic tests of backups to ensure success.
- Comply with CM policies as they relate to the system administration environment.
Required Skills and Relevant Experience:
- 3 or more years supporting and administering systems running Red Hat Enterprise Linux
- 2 or more years of configuration management with Ansible and/or Satellite
- 2 or more years of experience supporting Linux desktops & workstations, any flavor of Linux, but GNOME experience will be given preference
- 1 or more years supporting web applications running on RHEL, with Postgres backend.
- Experience working with Hadoop, SLURM, or other distributed computing platforms.
- Experience with VMware Virtual Desktops
- Experience with Python
Education and Certifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher
- Red Hat certification
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) certification
- As required by the nature of our work with this Federal client, this position requires U.S. citizenship.
