JOB TITLE: Linehaul Dispatcher
REPORTS TO: Manager of Line Haul
OVERVIEW OF ROLE: To ensure the customer is always serviced first by coordinating efficient, necessary linehaul movements throughout the system while balancing cost and by monitoring all movements ensuring service standards are met.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with throughput service center supervisors to coordinate their dispatches.
- Update and evaluate critical linehaul measurements.
- Communicate with all outbound supervisors in an attempt to combine loads and reduce or eliminate partial loads.
- Communicate with all service centers to gather and dispense information regarding inbound loads.
- Manage breakdown situations and follow up with maintenance shop to ensure that freight on the unit is moved through to destination as quickly as possible.
- Establish an initial nightly dispatch plan.
- Modify initial linehaul plan as needed.
- Monitor all outbound cut-off times to protect service.
- Monitor linehaul driver performance
- Enlist and coordinate third party carriers to move overflow loads in a cost efficient manner.
- Check trailer cubes from previous day and counsels outbound supervisors as needed to ensure loads are being built efficiently.
- Approve all road driver motel invoices.
- Approve road driver runs, fueling, and drop & hooks in the Kronos System.
- Track linehaul driver vacation schedules and keeps information current.
- Handle special projects as required.
- Participate in leadership development process to identify and improve leadership abilities. Pursue personal development opportunities and encourage others along the same path.
Job Requirements:
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must have previous experience in the motor carrier industry and knowledge of over the road operations.
- Supervisor experience preferred.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision and limited instruction.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work well with others.
- Must have strong problem solving and analytical skills.
- Must be willing to work flexible hours as needed.
- Basic P.C. skills in excel and word, Lotus notes experience a plus
- This is a night shift position and must be able to be on a rotation for every third weekend on call.
