SUMMARY

The Lift Operations Supervisor is responsible for preparing daily staff assignments, conductingpre-shift meetings and supervising the day-to-day functions of Lift Operations under the direction and guidance of the Lift Operations Manager and Assistant Manager. Actively conduct and participate in ongoing Lift Operator training and monitor the day-to-day activities of Lift Operators and Lead Lift Operators, making suggestions and demonstrating good technique where applicable. Assist Lift Maintenance with daily pre-operational inspections and tests as assigned. Assist the Lift Operations Assistant Manager to prepare and update weekly work schedules for staff. Assist with recruiting, interviewing and hiring seasonal staff. Complete additional projects as assigned by the Lift Operations Managers. A key part of every employee's job is to serve as a Targhee ambassador, engaging the guest at every opportunity.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Responsible to report to work in appropriate uniform and follow grooming/appearance standards.
  2. Assists Lift Operations Managers with hiring, motivating, evaluating, and directing staff to ensure adequate guidance and devotion of resources to accomplish established goals and objectives. Ensures that all employees receive the training, support, guidance, feedback and resources necessary to service guests consistently. Must delegate responsibility, motivate, support and lead direct reports to achieve goals and objectives.
  3. Fulfill all duties of and responsibilities of a Lift Operator or Lead Lift Operator when staffing levels necessitate or as directed by Lift Operations Managers
  4. Lead and conduct ongoing staff training throughout the season by reinforcing procedures and providing lift-specific training using training guides. Provide training to new Lift Operators both in the field and in classroom settings. Provide feedback and suggestions to the Lift Operations Manager regarding improvements to training materials, programs and procedures.
  5. Ensure that all mechanical components are functioning properly by checking and performing routine inspections and notifying Lift Maintenance of any abnormalities.
  6. Assist Lift Maintenance to carry out startup procedures, including completion of terminal checks, switch tests, line check, power-up, completing the lift pre-operational inspections and completing applicable paperwork.
  7. Oversee and perform a variety of opening & closing procedures, including maze setup/take down and ramp grooming/maintenance.
  8. Sweep snow from chairs when needed. Assist Lift Maintenance to de-ice chairs and lift components as directed.
  9. Monitor the condition of loading/unloading ramps and maintains them by shoveling/raking snow as needed. Directs and assists Lift Operators and Leads as needed.
  10. Shovel/remove snow from around top & bottom stations as needed.
  11. Operate a snow-blower and provide training on safe snowblower use to Lift Operators.
  12. Continuously monitors the operation of the lift and corrects problems by notifying the Lift Operations Managers or lift maintenance of concerns or unsafe conditions.
  13. Verify that riders have valid lift tickets by ensuring that all tickets and passes are scanned. Refuse entry to those without a valid ticket and refer them to the appropriate personnel.
  14. Direct guests through mazes for efficient loading of lift.
  15. Ensure safe loading, riding and unloading of the lift by assisting guests and providing instructions to inexperienced lift riders.
  16. Assist guests unloading the lift by visually observing and monitoring the unloading station and providing verbal instruction when needed.
  17. Pick up dropped skis, poles, clothing or other belongings for guests and return them to the owner or take items to lost and found.
  18. Provide superior service to our guests (internal and external) by interacting with guests, answering questions and providing resort and mountain information.
  19. Monitor overall crew performance and competency, making suggestions and adjustments as needed. Keep the Lift Operations Manager informed of concerns and seek guidance as needed.
  20. Operate a snowmobile in a safe manner according to company policies.
  21. Ski/ride at an intermediate level or higher while following company and department policies to demonstrate responsible and safe skiing/riding. Follow approved routes, posted warnings, boundaries and closures at all times.
  22. Assist with the transportation, setup and teardown of department infrastructure, signs, fences, benches, supplies, snowblowers, ski racks and maze panels.
  23. Respond to all guests and employees in a courteous, professional manner.
  24. Participate in weekly Lead team meetings to discuss team performance, areas of enhancement, training and safety topics.
  25. Positively contributes to team effort by assisting other staff as needed.
  26. Maintain cleanliness standards of lift shacks.
  27. Complete all appropriate paperwork daily including stop logs and checklists.
  28. Perform closing procedures by unloading all riders from lift, shut lift down, repair and smooth ramps and maze areas, secure lift house and tools.
  29. Fills out incident reports.
  30. Performs other tasks and projects as assigned.
  31. Flexible working hours. Some job sharing may be required.

RESPONSIBILITIES TO SAFETY:

  1. Protect the safety of self, co-workers, and Grand Targhee Resort guests at all times.
  2. Report any potentially harmful equipment or situations to the immediate supervisor without delay.
  3. Report safety-related accidents and incidents at once to immediate supervisor.
  4. Follow all company and department safety policies and procedures as outlined in the Resort's Occupational Safety & Health Compliance Manual and department-specific procedures or manuals.
  5. Skies within ability level, taking safe and direct routes of travel. Follows Skier's Responsibility Code at all times.
  6. Operate equipment in a safe manner that will not lead to injury of yourself or others.
  7. Drive in accordance with the law and Grand Targhee Resort policies.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Provides daily guidance and assistance to 20-30+ Lift Operators and Lead Lift Operators at all lifts. Attempts to improve operational performance of operators when observing, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must have demonstrated leadership qualities, communication skills and the ability to work well with others. Good communication skills, ability to train, coordinate and oversee the work of others.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Minimum of 1 year experience as Lead Lift Operator, Lift Maintenance, or equivalent, intermediate skiing/riding proficiency, knowledge of mechanical operation of lifts, minimum 21 years of age. High school graduate or GED required.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

High level of communication with coworkers and resort guests. Greet customers in a congenial manner and answer a variety of questions about ski trails, weather and snow conditions, lift schedules and riding time, and general information about the resort and area. Read and understand manuals, safety signs, machinery control labels, warning placards and indicator panels as printed.

REASONING ABILITY

Requires efficient problem-solving skills. Receives instruction/advice from the Lift Operations Manager for daily tasks. Needs to take the initiative and go out in the field and perform tasks. High level of independence but keeps the Lift Operations Manager informed at all times.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The work environment includes noise from Motor Rooms of lifts, snow cats working in the area, and snowmobile noise.
