Job description

Position Summary/Objective
To further the mission of the camp by providing supervision and ensuring a safe environment at the camp’s waterfront and pool activities. Assist in the operation of the waterfront and pool facilities and activities.
Essential Functions

  • Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude, behavior, and following of camp procedures.
  • Assist with creating and implementing aquatics lesson plans that meet and support camp and camper goals.
  • Apply basic youth development principles to empower campers, embrace diversity, aid in competency development, and build connections.
  • Supervise, facilitate, and guard aquatics activities including swimming and boating as scheduled.
  • Assist staff in facilitating program areas such as swimming and boating.
  • Evaluate aquatic abilities of campers and staff.
  • Provide surveillance during aquatic activities to help prevent and manage injuries.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety for campers and staff at all activities.
  • Ensure that campers and staff know and follow safety and educational procedures in aquatics areas.
  • Provide rescues as needed.
  • Perform first aid, CPR, and other emergency management services as needed.
  • Understand and implement appropriate responses to changes in water or weather conditions affecting the waterfront or pool.
  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities.
  • Assist in the management and care of the physical facilities and equipment in the aquatics program areas.
  • Conduct daily checks of area and equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
  • Do what needs to be done so that every camper has a great summer at camp.

Education and Experience
  • 16 years of age or older.
  • Desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a Red Cross lifeguard certification.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain First Aid and CPR certification for the professional rescuer.
  • Prior experience at a pool or waterfront preferred.
  • Training and experience in waterfront activities that are offered at the camp including swimming and small craft boating preferred.
  • Must be willing to become a member of Girl Scouts.
  • Knowledge of the Girl Scout program preferred.
  • Must be able to pass State and National background check.
Work Environment
Operates in a professional camp environment and will live on site. This role occasionally uses standard office equipment such as computers and phones. Requires ability and willingness to work in various activity areas at camp in all types of weather including rain, extreme heat, and cold. Must be able to move around the camp property to assist campers in their activities and spend a majority of hours each day standing and interacting with children.
Work Schedule
  • Position requires flexibility with schedule, typical schedule is Sunday through Friday, though some Saturdays may be required.
  • Position requires living on site and working evenings.
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.
Compensation
  • Room and board
  • $60 per day (position requires a 6-day workweek)

Camp Linden: June 16th through August 9th or 22nd, 2024
