Scope and Purpose:

We are seeking a thorough Insurance Underwriter for our Life department to determine potential clients’ risk factors. Previous experience with a brokerage firm or insurance company is preferred. This is a Houston-based in-office position.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Review insurance applications for compliance and adherence.
  • Review, interpret, and report MIB codes.
  • Assess clients’ background information to include the review of prescription checks, medical records, and financial status.
  • Evaluate the risk with regard to the company’s underwriting guidelines.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Graduate or equivalent (GED).

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • At least 5 years of health underwriting experience.
  • Medical Insurance background.
  • Knowledge of Medical Terminology.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Adhere to the HIPAA Privacy Rule.
  • Excellent interpersonal & office skills.
  • Willingness to help and learn.
  • LOMA 280 Principles of Insurance, LOMA 290 Insurance Company Operations, or UND 386 Underwriting Life and Health Insurance certification is a plus.

This position does not require travel.
