Among the key duties of this position are the following:
- Reviews new invention disclosures, discerning and articulating features affecting patentability and commercial value.
- Determines range and optimum path forward for IP protection and patent filing alternatives.
Perform technology market assessments, including competitive landscape, commercial scenarios, monetary potential. - Prepares high‐quality written and oral presentations to Technology Transfer, faculty, licensees, and other constituents.
- Creates and manages all aspects of technology commercialization projects, including marketing material supporting licensing campaigns and commercial programs.
- Promotes HealthAdvance and TechAdvance activities when applicable.
- Engages faculty to promote Technology Transfer, identify patentable discoveries and to encourage the timely submission of invention disclosures.
- Assists and supports in the review of IP related issues of research and other contracts, as assigned.
- Works closely and interact effectively with Rutgers innovators, Technology Transfer staff, and external entities (companies, consultants), demonstrating sound technical and functional judgement, interpersonal and communications skills.
- MS degree in SCIENCES and/or ENGINEERING (including sciences such as life sciences, physical sciences, or engineering) or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and perform thorough tech-market and commercial assessments in broad range of technologies.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills mandatory.
- Must have demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with scientists and industrial researchers. Ability to develop and make coherent and compelling public presentations.
- Ability to organize and manage a high workload, multiple concurrent projects, and a wide range of technologies. Ability to function as an effective team player.
- Ph.D. in a scientific field or MBA.
- Broad business and scientific knowledge, education, or experience in multiple technical areas.
- Working knowledge of patents and intellectual property or experience with research commercialization/technology transfer in either academic or industrial environments.
- Ability to perform tech-market assessment of innovations (from scientific research).
- Experience in marketing and coordinate multidisciplinary collaborations.
- Hands-on science/technology licensing or management experience in academic or industrial environments.
- Proficiency in market assessment to quantify market potential of technologies.
- Software and programs for routine office work (Excel, PPT), as well as scientific and patent literature and searches.
- Technology Transfer utilizes a specialized database to track relevant activity .
- Ability to work with such databases.
- Office environment.
