Job Title: Licensed Vocational Nurse
Base Rate: $25.43 - $35.61
12 hr. shifts- overtime is paid after 8 hours, resulting in an average rate of $29.67 - $41.55
Job Summary:
Performs under the supervision of a licensed nurse, carries out the established plan of care for an assigned group of patients. Uses observation, planning, and implementation skills to ensure the performance of direct care activities required to provide and maintain individualized quality patient care. Specific areas of responsibilities include administration of medications under scope of practice, performance of treatments, gathering of data of patient assigned. Contributing to an individualized plan of care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, provision of patient education as directed, maintenance of a record of care provided and ensuring that hygiene and comfort measures are provided. Actively and consistently contributes to department operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.
Essential Functions:
- Perform nursing procedures as regulated by licensure and certification and delegated by the supervising licensed nurse such as: administering medications by any route except intravenous and intrathecal; performing treatments and procedures including passage of nasogastric tubes, administration of enteral feedings, monitoring of blood glucose, urinary catheterization, and administration of enemas.
- Demonstrates competency in the collection of data (within the Scope of Practice) in the patient population served including but not limited to Risk Management, Reinforcement of education needs, psychosocial needs, clinical care.
- Coordinates care under the direction of the RN for the patient/significant others as well as the other members of the health team.
- Ability to accurately document pertinent patient information including but not limited to vital signs, intake and output, height and weight, and other care observations.
- Turn or reposition bedridden patients.
- Review patients' dietary restrictions, food allergies, and preferences to ensure patient receives appropriate diet.
- Accurately obtains and records in EMR (Electronic Medical Record) results of glucose monitoring and ACT Plus analyzer. Accurately runs controls on glucometer and ACT Plus analyzers and documents QC (Quality Control) appropriately. Ensures that control bottles and test cartridges are dated accurately.
- Performs tasks delegated timely and documents such in a timely and accurate manner.
- Unit stock and maintenance duties as established by the department.
- Assist in daily checks of equipment in the department and assure its function and replacement status.
- Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.
- Uses AIDET in interactions with patients and family members. Utilizes white boards for patient communication.
- Collaborates across disciplines to assist in coordination of patient care, including but not limited to patient transfer, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Acts with a sense of urgency when performing tasks.
- Basic unit/department maintenance such as keeping files, drawers, cabinets free from unnecessary clutter. Reports on any equipment and or environmental issues for repair.
- Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
- Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) when communicating with oncoming shift, physician communication and giving report to ancillary or other nursing services.
- Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.
- Completes and attends monthly training assigned.
- May float to other areas of the hospital as needed. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience:
- At least one (1) year prior experience in department of assignment
- Critical thinking, service excellence and good interpersonal communication skills, ability to read/comprehend written instructions, strong organizational skills, ability to follow verbal instructions, and PC (computer) skills.
- A capacity to learn, synthesize, make critical judgments, work independently, place patients and families first, and collaborate with the team members who are recognized leaders within health care.
Education:
- Graduate of an Accredited school of License Vocational Nurses.
Licensure/Certifications:
- Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) issued by licensing/certifying board in state of employment.
- IV Certification for acute care with the state nursing board in which employment is held.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification from AHA (American Heart Association) required.
- Other specific certifications required as per department assignment: PALS (Pediatric Life Support), (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) NRP, and AB508 (Management of Assaultive Behavior, MAB)
