Job Description:
Under the direction of the Director of Special Education or designee, the Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) performs a wide variety of nursing and clerical duties in support of the client’s health initiatives, including specialized health care procedures, first aid, administration of medication, maintenance of health records, preparation of reports, and assistance with health screening.
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to the following:*
Under the direct supervision of the school nurse, the Licensed Vocational Nurse:
- Contributes to the development and implementation of teaching plan and self-care for patient.
- Participates in planning with the school nurse to meet student needs.
- Executes interventions as per the treatment and health care plans.
- Contributes to the evaluation of interventions and treatment.
- Monitors ill/injured students.
- Take basic vital signs.
- Helps to monitor immunization records and follows up to collect data needed.
- Collects data to share with school nurse to assist in health care planning.
- Maintains student health records.
- Under supervision, the LVN may administer medications/injections while providing basic nursing care.
- Assist with crisis response (following written plan).

- Ability to work independently and efficiently, exercising reasonable judgment, in a fast-paced, multi-task environment with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and demonstrate problem-solving skills, while maintaining courtesy, professionalism, and a customer service attitude.
- Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Education and Experience:
- Must possess a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED). Successful completion of an accredited vocational nursing program is required.
- Current active license as a Vocational Nurse in California.
- Possession and maintenance of valid CPR and First Aid certification from an approved source, such as American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
