Position Overview
Companion Animal Hospital in Austin is searching for a reliable and hardworking Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) to join our small, family-oriented team. The position starts immediately. The ideal candidate will be passionate about companion pets and exotic animals; demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills; be a team player; and be willing to assist our veterinarians and staff with any tasks to provide the best care for our patients.

Companion Animal Hospital (CAH) is located in the Oak Hill neighborhood of Austin, Texas. We are a family-owned practice and pride ourselves on being a high-quality, diagnostic practice with a progressive, non-corporate atmosphere. Equally important to the care of our patients, we are committed to having a well-trained support staff to ensure our doctors are able to focus on medicine and surgery. CAH is owned by Dr. Alfredo J. Geigel-Ortiz. Dr. Geigel holds a VMD from the University of Pennsylvania (class of ‘04) and has a wide and diverse background in veterinary medicine. CAH is a bilingual practice in English and Spanish.
Job Duties
- Professionally communicating with clients and other staff members.
- Assisting veterinarians with exams, surgeries, and animal restraints.
- Preparing for surgeries, monitoring anesthesia, taking digital x-rays and digital dental x-rays, placing IV catheters, taking ultrasounds, collecting specimens, and filling prescriptions.
- Obtaining and maintaining patient records.
- Helping with invoicing, scheduling appointments, answering the phone, and other office duties.
- Cleaning, sterilizing, and maintaining instruments, equipment, and rooms.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

- occasionally handling dogs and other animals weighing up to and over 150 pounds (assistance will be provided when working with larger animals).
Qualifications
- Licensure from the state of Texas. We are seeking a Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).
- A working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs; common diseases, their symptoms, means of transmission, and treatment and prevention; other basic preventative health care recommendations.
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- The ability to work as a team player and independently to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives.
Compensation and Benefits
- The salary for this position starts at $25/hour. Starting salary depends on experience and qualifications.
- Eligibility for paid time off after one year.
- Eligibility for health insurance after ninety days.
