Position: Associate Licensed Therapist or Counselor
Department: Clinical
Supervisor: Clinical Director
FSLA Status: Exempt
Age of Population Served: Adult 18-64
The Associate Therapist is responsible for providing residential behavioral health treatment and
transitional care services as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team. Under the Supervision of a licensed
clinical provider, the therapist fulfills direct service, including individual, couple/family and group
psychotherapy, consultations, and crisis intervention.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Responsible for the quality of clinical treatment for each client and their family.
• Carry a clinical case load which is determined by the Clinical Director. Additional support may
include providing coverage as needed to support client's clinical needs.
• Participate in clinical meetings, trainings, supervisions, outreach and public-speaking events and
staff meetings, as assigned.
• Communicate as indicated with client’s outside treatment providers.
• Attend weekly individual supervision as directed by licensure status or Clinical Director.
• Conduct and participate in assessments of clients at the time of admission and re-assessments
as required.
• Timely and accurate clinical record documentation including progress reports and notes,
admission and discharge summaries, treatment plan updates, and supporting auxiliary and
support staff with requisite documentation needs.
• Ability to manage time appropriately and independently.
• With the guidance of a supervisor, initiates own treatment planning and responsible use of
resources. Ability to participate in the development and implementation of comprehensive
treatment plans drawing on the full scope of clinical data available in each care.
• Support, with clinical evidence, a continuum of care that considers length-of-stay and evidence
for the need for continuum of care.
• Understands various treatment modalities (group, individual, family).
• Knowledge of various therapeutic approaches and theoretical orientations.
• Self-initiates communication with support staff, adjunct staff and clinical team.
• Review and respond to email communication throughout the day, and timely phone
communication.
• Participate in clinical on-call rotation, as determined by the Clinical Director.
• Collaborate and execute discharge planning.
• Maintain active presence in the therapeutic milieu and proactively attend to emergent issues
and dynamics as needed to help manage the day-to-day clinical program.
• Fully understand or demonstrate ability to utilize resources regarding Anew policy and
procedures, professional ethics, including appropriate boundaries and patient confidentiality;
monitor documents according to company and HIPAA policies.
• Professionally, ethically, and compassionately relates to clients, families, referral sources and
staff at all times.
• Meet timeliness expectations of completing work as scheduled, demonstrating self-paced
performance and adjusting priorities as needed.
• Meet quality expectations of accuracy, completeness, and responsiveness to feedback.
• Write clear and concise statements summarizing client’s feelings, presentation and response in
clinically significant encounters.
• Model appropriate interpersonal relationships, emotional regulation, and boundaries.
• Model and reinforce positive behaviors of clients, and promotes social interaction by conversing
with them, participating in activities with them, etc.
• Knowledge of current legal standards pertaining to professional practice, reporting
requirements, professional boundaries, and relate issues.
• Reports any immediate safety hazards to appropriate supervisory personnel or maintenance
personnel.
• Report resident abuse and neglect.
• Attend and participate in assigned and required trainings, supervisions, and weekly meetings.
• Ability to demonstrate awareness and respect for cultural, lifestyle, age, gender, and sexual
orientation diversities of clients and staff; apply knowledge of age, gender, and multi-cultural
counseling skills.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Associate license or license eligible PhD, PsyD, LMFT, LPC or LCSW.
• Clinical experience within a BH residential setting preferred.
• Experience working with family members and referents of identified patient.
• Case management and discharge planning skills.
• Additional preferred skills include family systems therapy, CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing,
EMDR, and/or somatic experience therapy.
• Experience working with varying DSM-V mental health diagnoses, including acute/severe mental
illness preferred
• Specific, required, current, and active licensure, registration, or certification information must
be maintained and in good standing.
• Knowledgeable-of and responsible for the upkeep of the supervision requirements, signature
and necessary documentation to obtain hours as an associate therapist.
• Intends to move toward full licensure when eligible.
• Preferred candidates should understand mental illness, co-occurring disorders, and milieu
therapy.
• Proficient computer skills and ability use various software programs.
• Have a valid driver’s license in good standing and auto insurance.
• Successfully complete drug screen and comprehensive background check.
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment.
• Ability to work evenings, nights and weekends as needed. Flexibility and adaptability in schedule
are essential.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision,
depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently
required to walk. The employee is occasionally required to stand.
