Job Description
The ideal candidate(s) for this position will have a liking to working with consumers in the Substance Abuse/addiction field. The Substance Abuse Counselor provides counseling and case management services to consumers with substance use disorders by using interventions, referrals, treatment, and rehabilitation.
Essential Duties
- Counsel consumers, individually and in group sessions, to support them in their journey of overcoming addiction, adjusting to life, and making positive changes.
- Complete and maintain accurate records about the patients' histories and progress, services provided, and other essential information.
- Collaborate with our other professionals to evaluate consumer needs and plan treatments.
- Conduct Intake Assessments/ASAM to determine level of care.
- Develop treatment plans for consumers.
- Carries a consumer caseload as assigned. Responsible for determining the consumer's strengths/weaknesses and needs to assist consumers in developing a treatment plan within 7 days of admission.
- Monitors and documents assigned consumer's progress toward the treatment plan.
- Provides alcohol and drug education in counseling sessions and groups.
- Must keep consumer records up-to-date utilizing EHR System.
- Responsible for assuring that assigned consumers are given random urinalysis according to State and Federal guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinical Supervisor/Director.
- Responsible for consumer confidentiality as regulated by Federal and State guidelines.
- Attend weekly/biweekly supervision meetings and any other supervision that is required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as strong analytical skills.
- ADT, LGPC, LGADC, LCADC, CSC-AD, or CAC-AD certifications to include supervisors.
- Must have exceptional problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Must have a working knowledge of computers including EHR and SUD billing codes.
- Knowledge of the established diagnostic criteria for substance use disorders.
- Knowledge of methods of measuring treatment outcomes
- Skilled in tailoring helping strategies and treatment.
- Skill in accurately documenting consumer-related information
- Ability to intervene and manage consumers in crises.
- Ability to learn the support systems and community resources.
- Ability to make constructive therapeutic responses when the consumer’s behavior is inconsistent with stated recovery goals.
Job Type: Full-time and Part-time, and Contractual
Pay: $20 - $50 per hour and Sign on bonus after 90 days
Experience:
- Addiction counseling: 1 year (Preferred)
- Supervision: 2 years
License/Certification:
- Trainee Status by MD Board of Professional Counselors (Required)
