State Hospital South (SHS) - Syringa Chalet Nursing Facility is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) who is caring, loving, and has a passion for helping others. SHS is in beautiful Southeast Idaho, an area best known for Oregon Trail and Native American history, amazing fly fishing, towering mountain peaks with abundant wildlife and awe inspiring geological sites. State Hospital South in Blackfoot provides psychiatric inpatient treatment and skilled nursing care for Idaho’s adult citizens with the most serious and persistent mental illnesses. The hospital works in partnership with families and communities to enable clients to return to community living. Syringa Chalet Nursing Facility at State Hospital South has 42 skilled nursing beds and offers services to consumers with a history of behavioral or psychiatric illness. It also maintains a statewide program to restore the competency of criminal justice patients.
This is an ongoing announcement which means at the time applicants apply, we may or may not have an opening. Those applicants that take and pass the exam to show they meet the minimum qualifications will be placed on the referral list. When a position becomes available, the hiring supervisor will then directly contact those applicants they wish to interview off the referral list.
The Idaho Department of Health & Welfare is a drug-free workplace. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
- Performs practical nursing care or assists a registered nurse or physician in routine to complex situations in clinics, private homes, or state institutions.
- Observes, records, and reports patients’ treatment, care, symptoms, physical and mental condition, behavior and progress.
- Administers prescribed medications including intramuscular injections and observes for adverse reactions.
- Performs treatments including change of sterile dressings, insertion of nasal gastric tubes, catheterizations, and removal of sutures.
- Interviews patients to obtain health information and instructs and counsels patients regarding basic health needs. Teaches patients and their families the importance of proper diet, proper positioning, range-of-motion exercises, transfer techniques, and personal hygiene procedures.
- Charts administered medications, symptoms, accidents, unusual behavior, doctors' visits and observed side effects of drugs.
- Orders lab and x-ray work under physicians’ orders.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
You must possess all the minimum qualifications below to pass the exam for this position.
