Licensed Practical Nurse - Surgical Services

Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio is seeking a full-time (37.5 Hours) Licensed Practical Nurse. This candidate is passionate about serving marginalized and medically underserved populations. This opportunity is foundational to the launch of the broader strategy to improve health equity through comprehensive primary care to our communities.

SUMMARY

Performs a variety of client care services in accordance with agency policies, Ohio regulatory laws, and the Ohio Board of Nursing. Provides information to patients seeking abortion services, assists with abortion procedures, and performs clerical functions, while ensuring quality patient care and excellent customer service. The LPN must display initiative and follow-through on duties with little guidance; retain all confidentiality in patient-related matters; be able to assist in identifying the changing needs of the surgery center, support team centered patient care; maintain a professional working relationship with physicians, co-workers, and patients. Requires an understanding of and commitment to quality healthcare and excellence in customer service. Supports the revenue cycle through accurately and effectively managing cash collections, verifications, daily closing procedures, and other related processes.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Ohio LPN nursing license required
• Must have IV certification
• Maintenance of board certification and state licensure at all times is required
• BLS and ACLS Certification required
• Valid Driver’s License or Access to reliable transportation is required

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Provides patients with accurate information regarding PPGOH services, including questions pertaining to abortion and contraception options as well as funding sources.
• Consults with Patient Navigator, RN and/or physician regarding patient care/concerns as needed.
• Perform limited ultrasound services for the purposes of pregnancy dating or image guidance for procedures.
• Completion of patient assessment where appropriate according to scope of practice or licensure.
• Administer medication under the direction of an RN/physician according to scope of practice or licensure.
• Initiate or maintain intravenous therapy procedures in accordance with Ohio Admin. Code § 4723-17-03 and only for those patients who are 18 years of age or older.
• Functions in the role of a recovery nurse.
• Maintains accurate records for patient registration, medical records, lab testing, etc.
• Competently utilize the Electronic Health Record (Epic).
• Verifies and correctly documents patients’ payment method for services as well as accurately determines eligibility for funding or private pay.
• Registers and schedules patients for services
• Determines patient fees for abortion services.
• Collects, Posts, and Reconciles payments per all PPGOH billing and financial policies.
• Provides patients with correct forms and ensures forms are completed based on the services needed.
• Transfers/documents required information in the medical record checking the accuracy of all data per PPGOH protocol.
• Assists in procedures.
• Provides appropriate and accurate patient education and information regarding abortion services.
• Provides pregnancy testing, information, and referrals.
• Collects and prepares lab specimens, including blood and urine collection.
• Prepares rooms for patient care and maintains cleanliness and inventory of the lab area and exam/procedure rooms.
• Handles medical waste per policy, utilizing universal precautions.
• Communicates with co-workers to keep patient visits moving in a timely manner.
• Maintains confidentiality and exercises sensitivity and a nonjudgmental manner in dealing with sexuality and sensitive issues with patients.
