Key aspects of this unit are the use of both verbal and non-verbal communication techniques, understanding the difficult behaviors that are sometimes associated with residents that have Alzheimer's/Dementia, as well as understanding that these behaviors can be valid communications. Itprovides needed care to those residents needing long term placement in a home-like environment.The Transitional Rehabilitation Unitoccupies the second floor of d'Youville Pavilion. This 42-bed unit provides short-term, skilled nursing and rehab services to patients recovering from fractures, joint replacements,back surgery, stroke, andother illnesses or injuries of a short-term nature where a rehab approach might be beneficial. Nursing services often include IV therapy, wound care and geriatric assessment and management.3 West is a 42-bed long-term care unit.
