Job Description
Under the supervision of a provider or registered nurse, participates in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care. At non-provider based, physician practice sites, and utilizing the medical model of care delivery, patient assessments, plan of care, and discharge plan are performed by a physician, nurse practitioner (NP), or physician assistant (PA). Under this model, the incumbent assists the provider in providing prescribed care or treatment to the patient. May also serve as direct supervisor for non-clinical staff.

• Emergency Department, Urgent Care, Psych LPN Experience Strongly Preferred
Education
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) school/program
Certification Summary
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Pediatric Emergency Assessment Recognition and Stabilization (PEARS) within 1 year of employment in Urgent Care
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Must satisfactorily complete the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta intravenous medication competency during orientation (Urgent Care)
Job Responsibilities
1.Assists licensed professional personnel in providing care to patients and families, incorporating age-related and developmental needs.
2.Participates in meeting educational needs of patient/family.
3.Participates in providing discharge instructions as delegated by licensed professional practitioners.
4.Maintains professional development.
5.Supports department performance improvement process.
6.Assists in maintaining departmental budget within established fiscal guidelines.
7.In physician practice, may directly supervise non-clinical staff.
8.Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including
• N = Neonate (less than 30 days)
• I = Infant (30 days to 1 year)
• EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years)
• LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years)
• A = Adolescent (13-17 years)
• AD = Adult
• ALL = all ages.
9.Performs other responsibilities as required.
Special Note: The LPN may not perform the following tasks:
1.Documentation of the initial inpatient admission assessment.
2.Initiation of Caregiver Protocols, with the exception of influenza vaccine protocols.
3.Initiation of the administration of blood products, unsupervised.
4.Initiate chemotherapy infusions or administer IV push chemotherapy.
5.Complete the initial assessment for restraints.
6.Unsupervised administration of code resuscitation drugs by IV push.
