Job Summary:
To assist the clinical providers in caring for Grand Ronde Health & Wellness Center (GRHWC) patients. Ensures the provision of healthcare services takes place in an efficient professional environment. Contributes to the Tribe's holistic health and wellness objectives for patients and families.
Essential Functions:
Assists medical professional staff in providing medical care to patients of the medical clinic.
In the absence of the LPN Administrator, assists in the management of AFC resident services; adhering to regulatory principles and the oversight of policies and procedures for the care of the elder and disabled residents.
Functions under established routines for urgent care services to provide nursing care within scope of practice.
Obtains patient intake information pertaining to visit to include chief complaint, vital signs, and weight.
Accurately records patient information in EHR.
Assists providers in providing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including casting, suturing, wound care, and venipuncture.
Performs diagnostic testing on patients per medical provider orders.
Maintains knowledge of sanitation, infection control, and proper reporting.
Maintains a safe and clean working environment consistent with facility and OSHA standards.
Knowledge of emergency equipment (location, use, and maintenance) in the event of actual emergent situation.
Contact with other departments/programs to coordinate patient care.
Phone triage to include patient inquiries regarding lab results, prescription refills, and plan of care.
Provides relevant health counseling and referrals for follow-up care and collaborating with other agencies involved in health care of patients.
Teaches individuals, groups and families about self-home care such as treatments, medications, nutrition and preventive measures.
Promotes continuity of care by relevant health counseling, referrals for follow-up care, arranging for appointments and collaborating with other agencies involved in the health care of patients.
Maintains adequate supplies and equipment necessary in the nursing areas and examination rooms in a clean, sanitary and safe environment.
Assists with medical reception staff duties including patient scheduling and clinic check in.
Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Administers and documents injections per written/verbal order to include; immunizations, allergy injections, other therapeutic injectable medications, and assesses patient response.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
Requires a current Oregon LPN license.
A minimum of three (3) years' experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse with a minimum of one (1) year experience in a clinical setting preferred.
Current CPR/BLS required.
Must maintain a valid Oregon driver's license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe's vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.
Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:
Must be detail oriented with ability to handle high patient volumes.
Must have excellent customer service skills.
Must have knowledge of Licensed Practical Nursing scope of practice.
Ability to operate and maintain medical equipment within the clinic.
Must have knowledge and experience in use of computerized electronic health records and software applications.
Working knowledge of sterile technique and special procedures applicable to care delivered.
Requires working knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, and basic health and safety precautions applicable to health clinic setting.
Adherences to the organization's policies and procedures covering the privacy, access, and patient health information in compliance with Federal and state laws.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinic staff.
Native American applicants preferred; knowledge of Native American culture required.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers.Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
Continually requires the use of vision, specifically close vision, color identification and depth perception.
Occasionally requires lifting of up to 40 pounds.
Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
- Frequently exposed to bodily fluids and potentially toxic substances.
- Frequently required to wear personal protective equipment such as gloves and eye protection.
- Continually required to handle soiled laundry.
- Occasionally exposed to compressed gases and detergents.
May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during Emergencies, or when the Tribal Emergency Operations Center is opened.
Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
