This position is ECB status – requires a minimum number of worked hours per month as needed by the department; limited benefit offerings. 7a - 7p
Job Summary: Provides Psychiatric Evaluations and Suicide Risk Assessments of individuals at increased risk for harm to self or others. Works with general supervision of a physician (psychiatrist) to provide psychiatric evaluations, diagnose mental disorders, make treatment recommendations to attending physicians, advance practice providers, and other members of the medical care teams.
Minimum Education: Master's degree in Counseling or related field.
Licensure, Registration and/or Certification: Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) issued by the State Board of Behavioral Health for Oklahoma or other Licensed Mental Health professional. Board certification preferred. Valid driver's license.
Work Experience: 2 years previous experience evaluating patients regarding psychiatric symptoms is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Strong interpersonal skills to interact effectively with leadership, colleagues, patients, members of the public and professional groups; to manage and coordinate activities and projects. Demonstrates ability for a high degree of analysis, critical thinking, and function independently, exercise sound judgment and initiative. Familiarity with PCs and clinical information systems. Strong psychological counseling skills. Ability to work in a complex, emotional, and stressful environment. Be flexible to shift priorities and to maintain confidentiality. Be available to accept new assignments as needed throughout scheduled shift. The employee works independently, resolves problems on the basis of past precedent; exercises judgment in interpreting guidelines and applicability; and ensures deadlines are met. The employee plans and carries out various stages of a project by selecting and pursuing approved methods and techniques as appropriate. Assignments are reviewed for quality and compliance with established policies and procedures. Must be able to meet and maintain current Oklahoma credentialing and privileging requirements. Follow license criteria when licensure applies. Current on required Saint Francis Health System trainings. Communicate effectively, clearly, concisely with others (internally and externally, both verbally and in writing); to consistently demonstrate positive/proactive customer service attitude; to consistently maintain ethical behaviors exemplary of quality public service or fair standards, inclusively, among all employees and members of the public. Establish and maintain effective interpersonal work relationships, to effectively assist medical providers; to work toward goals and objectives for Saint Francis Health System. Interacts effectively and professionally with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Utilize clinical judgment in the provision of comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation and Suicide Risk Assessments of individuals of any age recommended for consultation from the following populations: 1) mood disorders, 2) psychotic disorders, 3) substance use disorders, 4) delirium, 5) neurocognitive disorders 'dementia', 6) functional neurological disorders, 7) personality disorders, 8) any other disorder listed in the DSM-5, per our scope of practice. Obtain and evaluate individual, family, and Mental Health histories to assess acute risk for suicide and Mental Health disorders. Reviews pertinent Mental Health records and prepares for psychiatric evaluations. Documents patient assessments, clinical information, and recommendations as appropriate for the Psychiatry Consult Service. Assesses patient's psychiatric needs and makes treatment recommendations and referrals appropriate to their resources. Provides information about the Mental Health diagnosis, etiology, inheritance patterns, and risk occurrence. Identifies and coordinates appropriate treatment, provides education to physicians and patients and makes referrals for treatment. Obtains informed consent and authorization for obtaining collateral. Assists with the implementation of ethical practice based on the guidelines from the American Counseling Association and other appropriate standards for ethical practice.
Decision Making: Independent judgment in making decisions from many diversified alternatives that are subject to general review in final stages only.
Working Relationships: Coordinates activities of others (does not supervise). Works directly with patients and/or customers. Works with internal/external customers. Works with other healthcare professionals and staff. Works frequently with individuals at director level or above.
Special Job Dimensions: Maintain confidentiality consistent with ethical guidelines, including HIPAA and ACA ethical guidelines. Follow Saint Francis Health System's Clinical Practice Guidelines and all applicable policies, including adhering to the mission, vision, and Guiding Principles; to receive constructive feedback including evaluation of one's productivity and practice attributes. Must be able to meet and maintain credentialing with Saint Francis Hospital-Main and Saint Francis Hospital-South. Directive for availability to work evening hours, weekends, and holidays.
