- Perform descriptive cataloging for electronic and Continuing Resources, including new and retrospective print receipts; apply standard cataloging rules; verify or assign Library of Congress (LC) classification with general supervision; handle errors and changes in previously cataloged items; make decisions and solve problems for print serials independently based on established procedures and standardized rules.
- Carry out binding routines for the main library and branch libraries and direct students in maintaining the main library periodical alcove area.
- Search and verify bibliographic records and name, subject and series authority records in the Worldcat database; conduct subject revision and analysis for LC, CONSER, and member copy records using LC subject headings, on line OCLC/LC subject authority files and the LC subject cataloging resources.
- Use Electronic Resource Management software to manage the creation of MARC record files for the library subscriptions; update and upload bulk files into OBIS using MARCedit and Sierra.
- Coordinate withdrawals and location changes, including those involving moves to storage locations.
- Create and maintain summary holdings information in the library databases; create and maintain OCLC union list records for the library’s serial holdings; assist with claiming routines; assist in developing projects involving online database management.
- Hire and train departmental student assistants; direct student assistant work routines for classed and unclassed serials for the main library and branch libraries, including check-in, adding, barcoding, and bibliographic changes; solve problems from the students’ work and identify problems that need the attention of other staff members.
- Attend training workshops, webinars and regional academic library meetings.
- Communicate with other library departments regarding various routines, policies, and the treatment and use of materials; interpret complex serial records, describe library holdings, and explain departmental policies in order to provide informational assistance to staff and patrons.
- Assist department head in creating documentation.
- Perform other departmental duties as required.
