Job Summary
The Library Shelver will execute simple routine and special assignments which can be learned in on-the-job training.
This position will require the flexibility to work day and evening hours, and weekends.
Duties
- Performs sorting and shelving of materials, shelf reading, and maintains order and cleanliness of books and periodical areas.
- Searches for and retrieves requested materials.
- Executes the closing routine on which building security depends.
- Shifts items in library sections when requested by library staff.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Knowledge base to be able to demonstrate alphabetizing, filing, Dewey Decimal System, and other job related skills.
- Availability to work a flexible schedule, as needed.
PREFERRED:
- Related experience.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of Dewey Decimal Classification. Ability to learn routine library procedures, to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers and library patrons.
Attendance is an essential function of this position. The City reserves the right to require an employee in this position to work overtime. This position provides services or performs duties for the benefit of the general public during emergency situations. These may include services or duties different from those performed in the usual course and scope of your job. In the event of an evacuation, the incumbent in this position may be required to remain to perform needed services.
