New River Community College (NRCC) is a comprehensive community college located in the New River Valley of Virginia. New River Community College is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as the Library Services Coordinator. The coordinator is an administrative faculty position reporting to the Vice President for Instruction and Student Services. The coordinator plans, coordinates, and oversees the daily operations of the library. The position is responsible for managing and providing public services, including circulation, reference, bibliographic instruction, event planning, and implementation of library policy and procedures. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading and managing Library Services to support the diverse academic needs of our students and faculty. Duties include:
  • Leads the team of professional librarians and staff, managing areas of collection development, reference and research, acquisitions and cataloging, statistics and assessment, interlibrary loan, instruction and information literacy, electronic resource access, and administration of the library integrated system.
  • Provide visionary leadership for the library, setting strategic goals and objectives.
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the library and ensures efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Provide excellent customer service to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Represent the library at the college, system, regional, and statewide level. This includes representation within the VIVA consortium, the MALiA consortium, and the VCCS library system.
  • Manage library budgets and statistical reporting.
  • Collaborate with college administrators, faculty, and staff to integrate Library Services into the overall academic experience.
  • Provide reference, circulation, instruction, and outreach services to NRCC students, faculty, and staff as well as the general public.
  • Cultivate an environment of warmth and collegiality working closely with administrators, faculty, and college departments in a campus team environment.
  • Stay current with trends in library science and emerging educational technology to enhance the quality of resources available.
  • Ensure the library's technological infrastructure is up-to-date and supports the evolving needs of users.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Library Science, Library and Information Systems, or related field from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
  • Substantial knowledge of academic library operations/management, current trends and best practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of library reference materials, including electronic resources.
  • Independent decision-making skills related to effectiveness of the library processes.
  • Experience with recruiting, selecting, evaluating, mentoring, and supervising library staff.
  • Ability to cultivate and maintain positive relationships with all college constituencies.
  • Understanding of and commitment to the community college mission and philosophy.
  • A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Superior customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of strategic planning and budgeting.
  • Energetic leadership with high ethical standards and a commitment to excellence and integrity.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Library experience in higher education.
