Position Summary/Purpose: Manage the daily operations of the school library, library staff and volunteers, support and assist students and staff in their use of the library, provide instruction as needed relative to library materials and equipment

Working conditions / Environment:
Physical Demands: walk, bend, twist at neck and trunk, squat, stoop, reach above head, reach forward, lift up to 25 pounds, pushing and pulling, visual acuity close/distance/depth perception, hearing to receive information, verbal to exchange information, sitting for prolonged periods of time
Environmental Conditions: indoor climate-controlled setting, at times elevated noise level with large student group movement and talking
Examples of Equipment/Supplies Used to Perform Tasks: standard office equipment including photocopiers, computers, phone, printers, along with specialized library equipment examples including scanners and multimedia projectors.

- Analyze patrons' requests to determine needed information, and assist in furnishing or locating that information
- Plan and teach classes on topics, such as information literacy, library instruction, and technology use
- Review and evaluate materials, using book reviews, catalogs, faculty recommendations, and current holdings to select and order print, audiovisual, and electronic resources
- Explain use of library facilities, resources, equipment, and services, and provide information about library policies
- Organize collections of books, publications, documents, audiovisual aids, and other reference materials for convenient access
- Confer with colleagues, faculty, and community members and organizations to conduct informational programs, make collection decisions, and determine library services to offer
- Direct and train library staff in duties, such as receiving, shelving, researching, cataloguing, and equipment use
- Perform other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position
Preferred Skills:
- Communicate with students, peers, volunteers, parents, library staff, and supervisors both orally and in writing
- Proficient use of computers to enter, access or retrieve data; library and online Internet research techniques; multi-media technology; word processing or desktop publishing.
- Organize, Plan, and Prioritize work and the work of library staff and volunteers
- Establish and Maintain Interpersonal Relationships with school community
- Document/Record information, maintain records, and monitor library resources
- Update and Use relevant knowledge
- Interpret the meaning of information for others
- Other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position
