Library Associate - Makerspace (Part-Time Temporary/Occasional)

Arlington Central Library is recruiting for a Temporary Library Associate to join our team for The Shop, Central Library's Makerspace, to join our team. This position requires a detail-oriented and team player with proven interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
Specific duties include:

• Working in the Library's maker space, The Shop, during open lab hours;
• Welcoming and checking patrons in as well as keeping records and reporting on The Shop activities (usage, time, accidents, and related reports;)
• Maintaining the safety of the lab/shop environment and of patrons;
• Supervising patrons and assisting with projects;
• Providing tours of The Shop, highlighting maker equipment and programs;
• Being available to answer questions and enforcing strict safety protocols;
• Performing basic maintenance and troubleshooting tasks on computers and equipment; and
• Supporting Shop programs as needed including design and prepare pieces for Shop Class programming using digital design software, The Shop equipment, and hand tools.

The ideal candidate will be creative, proactive, and comfortable learning new technologies and skills as well as enjoy trouble shooting, problem solving and providing excellent customer service.Minimum:

• Bachelor's Degree in Library Science, Education, Instructional Engineering, Instructional Design, Instructional or Educational Technology, or related.
• One year of experience in library operations or related field.

Substitution: Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

• Utilizing technology and delivering Maker services in a library setting;
• Providing customer service to a diverse population, especially in the area of technology;
• Operational knowledge of Maker equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and sewing machines;
• Experience with audiovisual digitization equipment and audiovisual materials handling; and/or
• Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud

Hours:
Thursdays 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Saturdays 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.
And various shifts during The Shop Open Lab weekdays: Tuesday - Friday 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
