Overview
The Merrill-Cazier Library Patron Services Unit is seeking a Library Assistant Senior - Night Supervisor. Reporting to the Head of Patron Services, the position is the primary staff person during evening hours and is responsible for the overall functioning of the library during those hours. Hours may vary with the needs of the unit, but are typically Sundays 12:00pm - 9:00pm, and Monday through Thursdays 3:00pm - 12:00am.
Review of applications will begin on November 29th, 2023 and the position will remain open until filled. The anticipated start date is December, 2023. Minimum $35,000 per year, plus excellent benefits.
Responsibilities
  • Perform general assignments and tasks associated with the daily operation of the Merrill-Cazier Library Help & Check-Out Desk and the Course Reserves Desk.
  • Assist with supervising the student workforce, and work regularly scheduled shifts at both desks and in other project areas.
  • Processes and performs duties related to "lost" books, "claimed returned books" and "missing" books.
  • Liaises with the Collections Strategies Section in finding replacement prices and billing patrons for replacement costs.
  • Works with the Registrar's office in placing graduation transcript holds and releasing these holds once searches and payments have reached a conclusion.
  • Perform minor equipment maintenance and book repair.
  • Monitors and answers questions sent via e-mail to the library circulation account.
  • Operates the Borrower Automated Retrieval Network (BARN), an automated high density storage warehouse, during assigned hours.
  • Initiates communication with other staff members to ensure evening/night employees have the most up to date information concerning library projects.
  • Generates statistical reports utilizing the Sierra ILS, 3M Gate counts, and other reports as needed.
  • Communicates departmental needs to the Web Services Librarian and Graphic Designer.
  • Participates on library-wide committees and assists with other duties as appropriate.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Three years of relevant experience; or two years of undergraduate coursework plus two years of relevant experience; or a bachelor's degree.
  • Experience working in a public service setting.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior work experience in an academic library.
  • Experience with an integrated library system, such as Sierra.
  • Experience supervising others in a public service setting.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and alone with little or no immediate supervision.
  • Ability to work with computer software applications, such as Word, Excel, and other applications.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with library employees and USU students, faculty, and staff, as well as community patrons.
