Job Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Library Director, the Library Aide serves all patrons who visit the library. This employee is responsible for cataloging and processing library materials, shelving materials, maintaining order in the book stacks, shelf reading library books and providing excellent customer service at the library's circulation desk.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Responsible for cataloging and processing new library materials, discarding old material, and modifying bibliographic records.
  • Responsible for performing normal circulation duties including checking in and out materials for patrons, answering phones, providing basic assistance, answering directional questions, and assisting patrons with using the computers and photocopier. Responsible for opening the library during the weekdays.
  • Responsible for understanding the library's services including all online services that the library offers as well as providing basic assistance to patrons using any of these services.
  • Responsible for checking in all periodicals, ensuring that periodicals are received, and reporting any missed periodicals.
  • Responsible for shelving materials according to the Library of Congress call number classification, maintaining shelved materials in call number order, helping keep the library space neat, and communicating policies to patrons as needed.
  • Assist with other library duties as needed including processing books, library instruction, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma required.
