Hiring Range: $55,028 to $68,785
FLSA Status: Exempt
Pay Grade: 111
Full Pay Range: $55,028 to $82,542
Trainee Pay Range: $49,525 to $61,906

Position Summary:
Performs professional front-line or supporting services and connects Library customers to information, resources, and services.
Essential Duties:
  • Provides professional front-line reference and readers' advisory work.
  • Assists the public visiting the library with computers and other electronic devices; delivers group and one-to-one technology instruction.
  • Responds to customer comments and concerns.
  • Assists with collection development and/or management.
  • Procures, disseminates, and promotes knowledge of literacy skills and strategies.
  • Collaborates with other staff to plan, publicize, and present library programs.
  • Markets the library and programs; creates content for website; and creates displays to promote library materials.
  • Trains volunteers and other staff as assigned; may oversee work of others.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with co-workers, library customers, and community partners
  • Assists in developing and expanding outreach services.
  • Serves on assigned teams and committees.
  • Interprets, explains and upholds library policies and procedures.
  • Provides library oversight during absence of library management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited program; prefer experience in a public library; any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training in a library setting which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
Trainee Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree and one-year library experience in a paraprofessional or professional capacity and a commitment to completion of a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA accredited institution within two years may be considered for an interim trainee position.

  • Ability to introduce library resources and services to users through public speaking, formal and informal presentations, and documentation
  • Ability to exercise initiative, sound judgment and discretion in performance of duties

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
Most work is performed in a library environment, and some in community settings.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and/or push materials including full book carts, book bins, and lifting tubs weighing up to 35 pounds.
  • Must be able to perform physically demanding duties involving repetitive standing, walking, reaching, bending, and stretching for long periods of time. Operate a variety of standard office equipment including a computer, laptop and/or tablet PC, telephone, e-reader, calculator, cash register, bar code reader, copy and fax machines requiring continuous and repetitive arm, hand and eye movement.
  • Clearly, concisely, and effectively communicates in person, electronically, and over the telephone
  • Work is performed in a dynamic environment that requires sensitivity to change and responsiveness to changing goals, priorities, and needs
