We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Librarian 1 - Teen Librarian to join our team on a full-time basis. As the Teen Librarian, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the library experience for the young adults in our community. You'll curate engaging programs, build meaningful connections, and provide valuable resources to support the diverse needs and interests of teens.

Responsibilities:

  • Program Development: Design, plan, and implement innovative and interactive programs catered specifically to teenagers, including book clubs, technology workshops, and creative arts events.
  • Outreach and Engagement: Proactively engage with local schools, youth organizations, and community groups to promote library services and cultivate partnerships aimed at enhancing teen involvement.
  • Collection Curation: Select and maintain a collection of materials, both print and digital, that resonate with the interests and preferences of teen patrons, ensuring diversity and relevance.
  • Collection Management: Oversee the collection management process and provide proficient reader advisory services.
  • Catalog Management: Edit bibliographic and item records for the library catalog, ensuring accuracy and accessibility of information.
  • Reference Services: Offer personalized assistance to teens in navigating library resources, conducting research, and utilizing technology effectively.
  • Statistical Analysis: Evaluate basic statistical data and prepare reports and surveys for the library management and local government to assess the impact and reach of teen programs and initiatives.
  • Digital Presence: Maintain and update the library's teen social media presence and webpage, engaging with patrons online.
  • Financial Responsibility: Handle opening and closing responsibilities, including cash management and daily cash reports.
  • Advocacy and Policy Adherence: Uphold the principles of the American Library Association, supporting freedom of access and client discretion of library materials while ensuring compliance with patron privacy and record-keeping policies.
  • Ad Hoc Responsibilities: Perform other duties as assigned by the library management.

Requirements

An individual should possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed and meet the amount of education, training and/or work experience required.

  • MLS or MLIS degree required
  • One year librarian experience preferred
  • Experience working with teenagers in an educational or library setting, demonstrating a deep understanding of their interests and needs
  • Proficiency in MS Office suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of online library databases and services
  • Technological proficiency and a keen interest in integrating technology into teen programming
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills– both verbal and written
  • A creative and innovative mindset with a passion for promoting literacy and learning among teens
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including weekdays, evenings and weekends

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry of items weighing up to (25) pounds and occasional up to (35) pounds such as files, books, stacks of paper, and other materials.
  • Ability to sit for long periods of time and to maintain focus on projects such as computer screens or detailed paperwork.
