This position is part of L&I's Enterprise Project Management Office (EPMO) and reports directly to the EPMO Director. In this role, you will use your unique vision and approach to advise on - and implement - Project Management standards and procedures. You will bring innovative thinking and a spirit of continuous improvement to address issues as they emerge and to provide regular feedback the help employees grow and develop.
Who you are:
You are an experienced project manager, skilled in training, coaching and mentoring individuals and project teams. You listen, empathize, and authentically connect with diverse teams and stakeholders to ensure quality outcomes, all while remaining curious and flexible.
Our ideal candidate will have experience:
  • Creating a safe and productive work environment that promotes collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Advising and consulting with high-level managers and executives as well as project team members (for example, leading multi-disciplinary work groups and providing strategic consultation to project teams that have policy, operational and technological implications.)
  • Leading cross-program project teams, facilitating their work and ensuring they produce measurable, timely results, all while keeping the people first.
  • Experience using analytical problem solving methods, program evaluation, process improvement methods, Project Management methodologies, policy assessment, and performance measurement.

Some of what you'll do:

  • Supervise and support the team of Enterprise Project managers to promote their professional growth.
  • Build a collaborative team to promote cooperative and comprehensive project support.
  • Build resource redundancy through project status and information sharing and transparency.
  • Implement and refine Project Management methodological best practices.
  • Establish and practice Project Management processes, protocols, and controls.
  • Review and adjust assignments and schedules and regularly evaluate employee performance.
  • Serve at the highest level of authority in Project Management and use Project Management expertise and standard practices to manage enterprise-level projects.
  • Advise on and implement standards and procedures for Project Management.
  • Work with agency leadership team to perform agency strategic planning and policy development.
  • Ensure projects are completed on time, on budget, within scope and at the desired level of quality.
  • Identify and participate in development of new agency policies needed as a result of systems using new technology.
  • Participate in making policy, integrating internal and external programs and policy issues in implementation strategy.

Required:

  • A Bachelor's degree AND five (5) years of experience practicing industry best practices, methodologies, and principles of Project Management.
OR
  • Ten (10) years of experience practicing the industry best practices, methodologies, and principles of Project Management.
AND
  • Certified in one or more Project Management methodologies.
    (i.e. Associate in Project Management (CAPM), Project Management Professional (PMP) certification, Certified Scrum Master (CSM), Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Lean Six Sigma, or Change Management Certifications)
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience.
Desired:

  • Advanced degree.
  • Five or more years of Project Management experience with a government (public) agency.
  • Formal training in Project Management methodologies as part of an accredited degree program or holding an industry recognized certification.
  • Knowledge of information technology concepts and practices.
  • Previous program management experience serving large and diverse customer bases.
  • Significant strategic planning experience.
  • Change-management certification preferred, but not required.

To help you maintain a proper work-life balance, teleworking is one of the work schedule options for this position. L&I also offers flexible custom work schedules. Remote work from a state outside of WA requires approval.
For this position, telework is permitted full time with the requirement to report to the Tumwater Headquarters office as needed to meet with project teams and leadership or for other business needs. The assigned duty station for this position may be in any of our service locations statewide. For positions where in-office work is necessary, the frequency of telework will be discussed with the supervisor of the position at the time of offer.

EXTRA Salary Information
The Target Pay Range typically considered for this position is $81,912 - $116,700 (Range of Consideration) annually. The Full Pay Range for this WMS Band is $66,936-$122,844 (Full band range) annually. Compensation decisions are determined using factors such as job-related skills, experience, and education or training. We will consider your individual qualifications, should we make you an offer of employment.
