Job description

THE OFFICE

The Office of Planning & Community Development (OPCD) ensures that City departments are aligned and coordinated in planning and advancing Equitable Development for Seattle's future growth. OPCD is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. The fields of urban planning and community development have often failed to reflect the experiences and identities of people affected by development decision and outcomes, including Black, Indigenous, People of Color, Immigrants, Refugees, People with Disabilities, and LGBTQ+ people. We strongly encourage people with these identities or from other marginalized communities to apply.

THE JOB

The Equitable Development Initiative (EDI) addresses displacement and the unequal distribution of opportunities to sustain a diverse Seattle. The EDI fosters community leadership and supports organizations to promote equitable access to housing, jobs, education, parks, cultural expression, healthy food, and other community needs and amenities.

The EDI team is recruiting applicants to fill a Temporary Assignment as EDI Project Manager for about six months while a team member is on leave. We are looking for people who are committed to public service, being part of a team and community at the forefront of innovation for equitable and sustainable development, and to centering equity and community in their work. You will help support some of EDI's more complex projects and real estate transactions, providing grantee support to plan and implement community-led projects and strategies to resist gentrification and promote access to opportunity.

We are seeking applicants with a mix of the following skills:

  • Grants and contracts management
  • Complex project management
  • Case management - working with community organizations, grantees, service providers, etc. to achieve specific goals
  • Community and/or economic development
  • Commercial Real Estate contracting

We do not expect to find any one applicant with all of these skills but will evaluate the combination of skills you share in your application, resume, cover letter, and responses to supplemental questions.

To be successful in this assignment, you are committed to:

  • Work that stops the displacement of historically underserved and underinvested communities.
  • Contributing to strategies in support of those whose ability to stay and thrive in Seattle is most impacted.
  • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with community-based organizations.
  • Listening and collaborating with people who have experienced displacement.

A successful applicant will have experience that reflects a commitment to Equitable Development. This experience should be complemented by demonstrated ability in a combination of the following areas:

  • Understanding anti-racist and equity-based work in the context of urban planning.
  • Nurturing and facilitating effective partnerships and relationships with communities, grantees, non-profit organizations, service providers, etc.
  • Facilitating working meetings, discussions, planning efforts, or stakeholder, community, or partner briefings to identify and resolve issues of risk, legal compliance, public policy, or public expectation and trust.
  • Providing direct support, assistance, and relationship management to community grantees and EDI contracted partners.
  • Managing grants and contracts, reviewing paperwork, tracking invoices, and communicating effectively and respectfully with both internal and external partners.
  • Real estate transactions, project development assistance, crafting developing strategies and alternatives.
  • Assessing and working within policy or regulatory-driven environments and managing compliance.

This job is classified as a Strategic Advisor 1*and the salary range is $43.89 - $65.83. Based on internal equity and the scope of the assignment, our target salary is $55.00

Starting November 1, 2022, City employees will work two days a week in the office.
