Description:
- Under the supervision of the relevant partner or other PP&R professional, advocate and lobby for client interests before the state legislature, executive branch agencies, and local government entities.
- Arrange, coordinate, and conduct meetings with legislators and other government officials, both alone and in conjunction with other PP&R professionals and clients.
- Arrange and coordinate the provision of meals and refreshments for legislators and other government officials in compliance with all applicable statutes and regulations.
- Track and monitor interim and legislative session committee meetings, agency hearings, and other proceedings as directed.
- Prepare periodic reports on legislative, regulatory, and other governmental activity for internal use and for the benefit of PP&R clients.
- Prepare customized reports to each assigned client, weekly during the legislative session and monthly thereafter, on issues specific to each client.
- Produce daily legislative schedules and weekly tracking sheets during the legislative session, alerting other PP&R professionals as needed on relevant committee meetings and the current status of legislation or issues.
- Provide legislative research services to other firm professionals.
- Coordinate timely compliance with all lobbyist reporting and disclosure requirements and maintain accurate records of such filings.
- Working in conjunction with the firm's Political Affairs Manager, coordinate the political activities of the firm and its clients, including tracking the disbursement of firm political action committee funds and client political contributions and hosting political fundraisers, legislative team luncheons and dinners, and the like. Coordinate timely compliance with the reporting and disclosure requirements applicable to the firm's political action committees.
- Coordinate production of other written materials pertinent to the PP&R practice.
- Compile and edit Legislative Forecast and Legislative Session Wrap-up reports for distribution in electronic and printed format. Compile and update distribution list for dissemination of reports.
- Assist in the maintenance of PP&R client information, including up-to-date contact information. Special projects and additional duties as assigned.
- 1-3 years experience working as an aide in a state or federal legislative office or in another significant and substantive public policy role.
- Strong and clear writing skills and the ability to understand and synthesize complex legislative and regulatory issues.
- Understanding of political and legislative processes.
- Resourcefulness to obtain or retrieve pertinent information, often from arcane or obscure sources.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact positively with the wide variety of personalities encountered in governmental and political environments.
- Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure.
- Strong organizational ability.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- High proficiency in a computer network environment, especially with the Microsoft Office applications suite.
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
