The UAW is building an ambitious political program to unite working class communities across the country and advance legislation that will win material gains for UAW members and workers everywhere. The UAW is seeking an Assistant Legislative Director with the vision and experience to execute big, bold campaigns to help build this movement and secure legislative victories.

Candidates should be skilled and experienced at executing legislative campaigns, with demonstrated experience advocating for and moving legislation, and mastery of or willingness to learn across a range of issue areas, such as manufacturing, electric vehicles, higher education, healthcare, retirement, trade, and more.

This job is based out of the UAW’s Washington D.C. office. Candidates must be willing to work long and irregular hours and to travel frequently with overnight stays.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with federal and state legislative staff of legislators.
  • Produce extensive written reports to staff on legislative priorities, campaigns, and outcomes.
  • Review current law and statutes where UAW stated concerns fall within existing legislation.
  • Research and write new legislation to address UAW concerns if nothing is in place.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • 3 years minimum experience in legislative, policy, or related work.
  • High proficiency in developing strategic plans and communicating them to staff.

Successful candidates will exhibit discerning judgment, exemplary people skills, and strong verbal and written communication skills. The ideal candidate is both a team player who can collaborate with an enthusiastic staff and a self-driven individual adept at time and task management.
