The role will report to the General Counsel and you will be involved in providing commercially driven advice and support the negotiation of consultancy contracts, EPC contracts and associated subcontracts across our global business.
The right person will have 3 to 5 years' experience practicing corporate, commercial and business law in private practice or in-house in the construction and/or resources industry.
What does this role involve?
•Act as primary legal contact on key projects / contracts for the North American region.
•Provide high quality and practical advice on construction law matters to assist the business in critical decision making.
•Assist General Counsel with ad hoc legal and governance requirements.
•Review head contract conditions and subcontract qualifications and advise on issues to be addressed to ensure an acceptable risk profile.
•Negotiate/draft contract amendments and close out of head contracts and subcontracts.
•Assist with developing appropriate responses to deal with issues arising under contracts during the construction/operational phase, with particular focus on early dispute resolution.
What are we looking for in our future team member?
•Law degree and admitted to the Bar (British Columbia).
•3 to 5 years' experience in corporate, commercial and business law, with a focus on negotiating and drafting of consultancy agreements and engineering, procurement, and construction contracts.
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
•Well-developed negotiation skills.
•Ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
•Strong commercial acumen with the ability to influence at all levels.
•Time management skills and the ability to balance competing priorities.
•Experience in construction and insurance law, dispute resolution and corporate law.
•Some understanding of mining and mineral's processing industries would be an asset.
