Duties and Responsibilities :

Faculty will teach a full-time schedule a minimum of 12 credits, advise students in Visual Communication and Digital Media Arts (VCDMA) courses; develop relationships, formal agreements, and maintain a database of relationships with organizations and companies with whom our students can intern and seek employment after graduation. Assists the DFPA with retention and recruitment efforts and by reaching out to new, current and transfer students and making sure they are on a path to success with their programs; students in need of advisement holds and review of academic progress. Assist with VCDMA portfolio reviews, internships and senior thesis and juried students exhibitions and related events as needed. Advises students on academic career and personal issues, making appropriate refers to the Career Development Center, Disability Support Office and Counseling Services; Meets with chair, program coordinators, and faculty to understand all DFPA undergraduate program requirements, 4-year plans for graduation, advisement checklists, the BSU undergraduate catalog, PeopleSoft and any possible updates to programs. Must be a team player, cooperative, collaborative, and have effective communication skills and potential grantsmanship. Attend meetings for program, department, college and university and other campus related events as needed.

Experience:

3 – 5 years of teaching undergraduate courses in advertising, graphic design, visual communication, and/or five or more years of industry experience. Must possess a background and successful undergraduate, teaching experience.
Demonstrated strong networking capabilities within the arts and design communities; management and creative direction experience on professional visual arts and design projects. Experience with Blackboard (or similar), experiential, virtual, and online learning, and technical support for students and faculty is required. HBCU teaching experience is highly preferred.

Education:

MFA preferred in Visual Communication and Digital Media Art/VCDMA, or related field, with an emphasis on creative research and activity.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities :

Should possess a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and technology application in the classroom. Excellent Oral and Written Communication, Proficiency in MS Word, Teams, Excel and PowerPoint; Teams/Zoom. Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, Knowledge of Advertising Design, Arts, Museum and Arts Organizations Industry; Knowledge of Blackboard, PeopleSoft and other learning management, grading tools.
