Description of primary duties and responsibilities::

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The Department of Communication, Languages, and Cultures is dedicated to students who are pursuing their academic and professional goals in Communication and Language Studies. We offer the Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and Media Studies and the Bachelor of Arts degrees in Spanish and Spanish with Teaching Licensure (K-12). The Department offers high-impact, excellent instruction, and degrees with opportunities for hands-on, practical experience, effective advising, service-learning, and internship opportunities. The Department is committed to producing graduates with practical skills and knowledge that prepare them for successful graduate study and career progression. The Department offers students state-of-the-art facilities, including a radio station, television studio, multi-media production computer lab, podcast studio, and a news room for student journalists. Renovations are being planned to include additional studio spaces.
Primary Purpose of the Position:

The Department of Communication, Languages, and Cultures at Fayetteville State University is seeking to fill a fixed-term Lecturer position beginning Fall 2024. Qualified applicants should be able to teach courses that support our general education core course in public speaking and teach major core and elective courses within the Communication and Media Studies program appropriate to the candidate’s expertise. Priority will go to applicants who can teach courses in audio production and/or social media.

Description of Work Continued::

60% -Teach courses in their subject area.
10% Develop an instructional plan (known as a course outline or syllabus) for the course(s) they teach and ensure that it meets college and department standards.
10% Plan lessons and assignments
10% Assess students’ progress by grading assignments, papers, exams, and other work.
6% Serve on academic or administrative committees, as needed.
2% Mentor students about which courses to take and how to achieve their goals.
2% Work with colleagues to develop or modify the curriculum for a degree or certificate program involving in-person, online, or hybrid delivery of course material.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements::

An earned MA or PhD from an accredited institution in an appropriate degree program.

Preferred Qualifications::

MA, MFA, or PhD from an accredited institution in an appropriate degree program with graduate coursework and experience in digital media production.Previous teaching experience and some industry experience in production are preferred.
