The University of Vermont's Department of Education in The College of Education & Social Services seeks to hire a Lecturer in Early Childhood Education for a full-time, 9-month appointment to begin August 2023, with the opportunity for reappointment.

Our nationally accredited Early Childhood program features a strong social constructivist and sociocultural orientation, innovative coursework and hands-on learning founded on research-based practices, with a commitment to sustainability, inclusion, and social justice. Our field-based approach is "early and often" with field experiences beginning in the first year. Student teaching internships with our community partners provide the opportunity to work in a variety of inclusive learning settings with young children and families fully supported by dedicated faculty and experienced mentor teachers.

This position would teach a combination of eight of the following courses depending on expertise.

EDEC 001 (4cr. Introduction to Early Care and Education) x Fall & Spring
EDEC 151 (SU: Science of Everyday Life)
EDEC 156 (K-3 STEM: Math for Meaning)
EDEC 182 (K-3 Literacy)
EDEC 063 (Child Development)
EDEC 113 (Creative Arts and Movement)
EDEC 007 (Critical Childhood Studies) x2 Large Enrollment
EDEC 145 (Preschool Curriculum Development)
SUPERVISION
EDEC 103 A&B (4cr Infant Toddler Practicum)
EDEC 179 (6cr K-3 Practicum) x 2 sections
EDEC 149A & B (4cr Preschool Practicum)
EDEC 187 (Internship: Student Teaching) x 3.8 sections, 19 students spring
QUALIFICATIONS:
Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, diversity, and social justice and/or experience collaborating with settings and agencies that serve diverse child and family populations
Earned master's degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related area (or anticipated degree completion prior to the start date)
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching, supervising, and advising undergraduate students in the Early Childhood Education program and related fields.
Collaborating with faculty as we strive for continual program innovation, meeting the needs of all pre-service student learners and centering social justice in our instruction.
Collaborating with faculty colleagues on cross-disciplinary teaching and service.
Engaging with community partners in early care and education settings as well as public schools.
Engaging in service within the college, university and profession (state, national, international).
Participating in state and national accreditation initiatives.
Teaching experience with preference for experience with children birth-grade 3.
Interest and skill in leadership work related to program coordination, good organization, communication, and advocacy skills.

The Department
